🚨 OVER 100 CARS TOWED IN BRIDGEPORT 🚨
What happened on East Main Street last night needs to be addressed.
More than 100 vehicles were reportedly towed, and people are now being asked to pay OVER $300 EACH to get their vehicles back.
Think about what that means for working families, residents, employees and small business owners. For some people, $300+ is groceries. It's a utility bill. It's part of the rent. It's money they simply may not have sitting around.
The biggest issue is NOTICE.
Many of these vehicles were legally parked before temporary no-parking signage was posted. Then we had heavy rain, and some of that temporary signage became difficult or impossible to see.
My own vehicle was one of the vehicles towed, but this isn't just about me or Bridgeport Thrift. This is about more than 100 members of our community potentially being hit with hundreds of dollars in unexpected costs.
If temporary parking restrictions are going to result in someone's vehicle being taken, there needs to be clear, reasonable and effective notice.
If more than 100 cars were still parked there, maybe the question shouldn't only be, "Why didn't everyone move their cars?"
Maybe we should also be asking:
WAS THE PUBLIC GIVEN ADEQUATE NOTICE?
The City of Bridgeport should review what happened, how and when notice was provided, and whether these towing charges should be refunded or waived for the people affected.
Over 100 vehicles × $300+ each = more than $30,000 coming out of the pockets of our community.
People deserve answers.
