On a hot and sunny day in August, the elves of Shorefront Toys for Tots, along with a number of our friends and supporters, delivered Christmas and breakfast to Coney Island Hospital's pediatrics unit. While the holidays won't be here for another few months, we felt that it was important to do something nice for the children of our community who have had a particularly difficult time dealing with the effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With that in mind, we joined together to distribute gifts and bring Christmas in August to all of the children in the hospital's pediatrics unit while leaving toys and gifts for more children who will be coming to the hospital for treatment. In the same vein, we wanted to express our thanks and gratitude to those health care professionals charged with the responsibility of taking care of our community's children by bringing them breakfast. Thank you to my Board Members who were able to join us (Lisa Schleimer and Susan Sohmer) and those who were not because of work and other commitments (Hon. Darma Diaz, Marion Cleaver, Craig Schatzman and Bob Wiesenfeld) and our friends who joined us in helping to distribute the toys (District Leader Ari Kagan -- who was representing our friend and Councilman Mark Treyger; Senator Diane Savino; Assemblyman Bill Colton; and Frieda Menos who was representing Congressman Hakeem Jeffries). Most of all, thank you to CIH's Director of Pediatrics Dr. Warren Siegel and everyone associated with the pediatrics unit for everything that you do on behalf of our children.
