❄️ A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for areas in the parks, beginning today and continuing throughout the weekend ❄️
These photos share a look into hazardous conditions during previous heavy storms in the parks. Strong winds and rockslides can push trees and other debris across the roadways, causing significant delays for traffic. Slick roads from snow and low visibility are also concerns for driving during winter storms.
Visitors should be prepared this weekend for winter storm conditions in the parks. This means 1. Tire chains may be required.
2. Temporary closures may occur if roadways become hazardous.
Learn more about winter driving and tire chains at https://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/winter_driving.htm. State law requires ALL vehicles (including 4-wheel and all-wheel drive) to carry tire chains or cables when entering chain-control zones.
👉 Check current conditions before arriving at the parks.
Weather forecasts for each area of the parks can be found online at https://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/weather.htm.
For 24-hour in-park road conditions, including closures and tire chain requirements, call the automated hotline at (559) 565-3341 (press 1, then 1 again).
