Amazon plans to make use of a by product of server farms: Heat.

They plan to use the heat generated from a large data center to warm their new office that is currently being constructed in Seattle.

Last week in my ASHRAE newsletter, I saw an interesting story about a cool thing that Amazon.com is planning to do with heat. Amazon, in case you didn't know, is a heavy user of computers. Not only do their run their online store but they also have a popular cloud computing service.

Researchers at Ludwig Maximilians Universitat have developed technology that uses photoelectric sensors to provide a more efficient method of sorting and recycling plastics.

The technique developed by German researchers quickly identifies plastic types so that they can be more efficiently recycled.

An ambitious concept for a sustainable skyscraper. The innovative design includes materials derived from recycled plastic, as well as an approach to cut costs during the construction phase.

It is encouraging to see events like PalletFest where recycled shipping pallets are repurposed for everything from art canvases to a pallet maze. This festival raises awareness about the short life-cycle of shipping crates, and how we can extend its longevity and usefulness with ingenuity.

The US' first upcycling festival is opening in Denver this weekend, featuring art, live music, upcycled fashion shows, and even pallet parkour.
