Being a tow truck operator is NOT about having a 9-to-5 job where you can clock out on-time everyday, go home to your family, eat a hot meal the moment it hits the dining room table, getting a good nights sleep and starting over again tomorrow.
Being a tow truck operator is a LIFESTYLE and personal choice, plain and simple. You work crazy-ass hours -day AND night, rarely eat off of a real dinner plate and spend more time in your truck than you do with your family -missing birthdays, date nights, school events and the countless other everyday happenings in ones' life.
REAL tow truck operators are 110% committed, hard working, loyal, driven, dedicated, reliable, determined and team players. They are the hero's of the road -in what quite possibly is one of the most dangerously underrated and thankless professions out there. It takes a very special kind of person to want to help others the way a tow truck operator does. This lifestyle is definitely not for everyone.
When you put your life on the line for others, you do it knowing that the vast majority of the time, those you help have no understanding, compassion or gratitude for you or the sacrifices made when they need you. Whether it's a simple lock-out after their workday is over, towing their vehicle after and accident while their on vacation or at 2a.m. to change their flat tire after having just laid your head down from a long day only 20 minutes earlier. The only solace you have is knowing what the past minutes, hours and days have brought and you pray that your significant other understands because when you have to climb back into that truck, their unconditional love and support becomes almost as important as the air you breathe.
This line of work is very challenging -not only for the tow truck operator, but for their families as well. If you can’t live up to the lifestyle and/or your family isn't supportive of you 110% of the time, you're not gonna last in this profession.
Only a very few understand the passion and the adrenaline-fueled rush one gets when they walk the thin white line -light bars flashing orange (warning us all to slow down/move over), dodging heavy metal, while only wearing reflective stripes on a dark uniform and sending a quick prayer above to return home to their families safe and alive.
