At Reindeer, we like to look at the glass half full. 🥛 And the same applies to your vehicle's gas tank before it can be shipped. 😉

Per industry guidelines and our recommendation, your gas tank should be at least 1/4 but no more than 1/2 full for domestic shipments (it's different for international or to or from HI, AK or PR, via a port).

Why? Because the extra fuel adds weight to the overall haul and there are strict weight guidelines for a car hauler. Plus, you may incur extra costs if your car has too much fuel in it at pick-up. And nobody wants that.

A carrier should always maintain a current Certificate of Insurance (COI) and have adequate coverage to haul vehicles. But what does that mean exactly?

Typically, an auto carrier has general liability insurance, auto liability and cargo insurance. Reindeer requires a minimum of $1M for liability and at least $100k (and enough to cover the value of the load being hauled).

But since liability insurance is required by law, as a customer, watch out for the cargo insurance coverage. If they don't have it, don't use them.
