All CA. Daggett, Barstow, Oro-Grande, Victorville, ending pics in Phelan to focus on getting through highway traffic and finding the camp in San Dimas, CA.
Oro Grande had the Bottle Tree Forrest. We ate at a local Pizza place that had an outdoor eating place for Allie to join us.
Drive to LA and the end of Route 66 happens tomorrow.

April 27th : Part 2
Amboy and Newberry Springs
We were in the Mojave National Preserve
when we found Amboy. There was a lot of road work going on. So bumpy & dusty.
Roy’s diner was (obviously) an old diner and cabin hotel. Popular stop in the middle of nothingness back in its day.
Still famous to stop at.
Amboy Crater is also in the preserve. An actual volcano. Black rocks are/ was lava from the blast. It was very HOT that day even Allie had a hard time. She moved herself out of the sun 😂. There was alot of desert driving today.
Newberry Springs was our stop for the night. The campground was a literal oasis in the desert due to the springs located there. Other green spots popped up too but still a lot of desert. Gas was highest here. Lots of depressed living.

Well, we are in our last day of travel to home.
Last push of (unfortunately) about 6 hrs from Roanoke VA. Will be a late afternoon arrival. Bad thing is that it’s raining.
Thankfully nothing, well maybe a couple of things, HAS to come inside today. We can park it in the driveway and take our time.

It has been quite the whirlwind of activity since the day we left. What a great adventure.
But I am definitely ready for a slow down.
