There are 5 things on this slide that make me a Mexico wedding expert… but the truth is, it goes deeper than that.

I was raised in the culture you’re stepping into. The destinations you’re considering are places I grew up visiting, not just researching online.

I’m perfectly bilingual, which means I’m not just translating words—I’m bridging communication between you and the people actually bringing your wedding to life. Vendors trust me, and that changes everything behind the scenes.

And while I’ve spent over 15 years planning weddings, my foundation comes from working in luxury incentive travel—where expectations are high, details matter, and ex*****on has to be seamless. That standard is something I carry into every wedding I plan.

So yes, these 5 things matter. But they’re backed by a lifetime of perspective that simply makes the process smoother, clearer, and more aligned for my couples.

If you’re early in the process and want to understand what actually makes a difference when planning a wedding in Mexico, this is a good place to start.

To celebrate closing Week One of Vincent’s Vendor Plug-In, I want to share a little surprise he gave me a few days ago…

One of the photos from my wedding was recognized as a Top 10 finalist by One Eyeland! It makes me really proud.

I wrote a short piece in my Journal about that moment. www.mexicoweddingalchemy.com/journal/vendor-plug-in-my-finalist-photo

I’m also linking Vincent’s awards here— these photos are breathtaking! Enjoy https://oneeyeland.com/vincent-van-den-berg/member_awards.php?pgrid=99098

Hello everyone, happy Thursday.

Today we continue Vincent’s Vendor Plug-in, but this part feels a little different… it’s less about weddings and more about how he sees the world.

I asked him what he loves photographing outside of weddings, and his answer honestly made me pause. Travel, culture, connection, movement, family… all things we have in common.

As a wedding planner, this is something I think about a lot. The photographers I recommend are not just technically good—they are people who are curious, grounded, and deeply connected to what’s happening in front of them. Because that’s what allows them to capture moments that actually feel like something.

These images you’re seeing are part of that world. Different places, different people, different energy—but the same eye behind the lens.

If you’ve ever wondered what shapes a photographer’s perspective, this is it.

You can read the full interview on the blog and step a little deeper into how Vincent sees, feels, and captures the world.

Hello everyone, happy Wednesday!

Today is the day we finally get to know Vincent van den Berg—the photographer who captured my own wedding 12 years ago.

Today I’m featuring Vincent’s top three favorite award-winning images. He has won many awards over the years, but these are the ones that still move him the most.

You can enjoy the photos here, but over on my blog, I go deeper. I sat down with Vincent and asked him all the questions I know my couples are curious about—how he creates these kinds of images, what he’s thinking behind the lens, how he approaches a wedding day, and how he works with couples and planners.

We also talk about the meaning behind the name of his studio, which I personally love.

Head over to the blog to get to know the man, the myth the legend, Vincent van den Berg.

This week, I’m really excited… because I get to dive into one of my favorite topics: photography.

I’ve been working on my Pinterest and revisiting past blog posts from my Journal, and as I found myself sharing my own wedding on Pinterest… going through my photos, wedding day, and my trash the dress session.

So I reached out to my photographer, Vincent van den Berg of Pixan Photography, to tell him how grateful I still am for the way he captured that time in our lives 12 years ago
These texts turned into a conversation… and that conversation turned into something I’m really excited to share with you this week.

A little backstory—when Mike and I were planning our wedding, I was just starting to explore Riviera Maya as a destination for my business, beyond just Puerto Vallarta where I began. At around that same time, I attended an industry event where I came across this up-and-coming photographer showcasing something I had never seen before: trash the dress sessions.

I loved his work instantly.

We were both, in a way, just starting to grow our own businesses in Riviera Maya … and we decided to work together! He photographed my wedding, and my trash the dress —and Vincent, well… he’s been absolutely killing it ever since.

We’ve stayed connected over the years, keeping up with each other’s lives through social media.

Fast forward to today, Vincent’s work has been ranked #1 Wedding Photographer in the World and #1 in Mexico by One Eyeland (2024–2025). And honestly… it makes me so proud to say he was part of my story.

So, this week, I’m bringing you a special behind-the-scenes look into his world.
I asked him the questions couples may want to know about photography, about how photographers see weddings, and what really matters when it comes to capturing your day.

And we’re also going a little deeper… beyond weddings… into what inspires him when he’s not behind the lens.

It’s going to be a good one.
Stay tuned.

Let’s talk about first dances for a second…

Sometimes, the song that represents your relationship is not the most romantic, slow, or “perfect” first dance song.

And honestly… there’s nothing you can do about that.

In my case, I Feel So Close to You by Calvin Harris was our song. Yes—an EDM song. Not exactly what you picture for a traditional first dance.

But it was our song. So instead of trying to change it, we worked with it.

We found an acoustic version and danced to that for our first dance… and then, halfway through, we transitioned into the original version and opened the dance floor with it.

It ended up being one of my favorite moments of the entire wedding.

So if your song doesn’t fit the “traditional” mold, don’t overthink it. There’s always a way to make it yours—you just have to get a little creative.

When I planned my wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico… as a wedding planner, I knew one of the biggest draws to having a destination wedding on the beach is the sunset, the ocean, the views.

But that also brings the other side of the coin, which is the challenge.

Once the sun sets, that beautiful, gorgeous ocean becomes a dark, empty space. So with every fiber of my being, I always tell my clients to invest in architectural lighting—sometimes even more than in flowers. Because as you can see from this picture of my wedding, when the sun sets, that’s when everything comes alive… that’s when my wedding was pumping.

Happy Hump Day… Hump Day!

This week I am guiding my clients through step one of their wedding planning journey. After the hotel is selected and everything is in place to send out save the dates… the very first thing I guide my clients to do is one of my favorite topics: photography.

The reason this is step one for me is because the best photographers are usually booked 9–12 months in advance—and you want to have your choice of talent.

So today, I spent my morning interviewing a photographer and reminiscing on how lucky we are to have the jobs we have—being witnesses to so many love stories. Because both wedding planners and photographers are privy to the behind-the-scenes… the family dynamics, the emotions, the beauty of the small details, and those intimate moments.

Where the magic happened for me today was that, prior to my call, I was working on creating this image from my wedding to be shared on my Pinterest account. If you’ve been following along, back in January I shared the behind the scenes of my own wedding journey. Today, I planned to work on Part 2 of the Wedding Day episode… and I found myself connecting the dots.

Because Part 2 of my wedding was all about photography. Isn’t that a beautiful synchronicity?

Look at this gorgeous photo taken by Vincent, my photographer. Observe the talent behind it. It’s so conceptually beautiful, so dramatic. Those clouds were there just for the show. This photo now lives on top of my fireplace.

And do you know what I don’t have anymore? I don’t have that delicious food that was served at my wedding. I don’t have those cocktails that made it such a fun night. I don’t have that sunset. I don’t have the flowers. But I have this photo… and about 300 more.

Photos—and video—are what you get to keep. That’s why I don’t take this decision lightly.

As my clients progress through their planning, I’ll take you with me as I share in My Journal the process I guide them through. And along the way, I’ll be inviting vendors to take over the blog through Vendor Spotlights.

Last week, I shared what’s really happening behind the scenes with hotel wedding teams. But today, I wanted to flip the perspective.

Because when the right structure is in place, working with your hotel can feel smooth, collaborative.

Most of my work happens behind the scenes — refining proposals, correcting details, negotiating, following up — so that by the time something reaches my clients, it’s clear, organized, and aligned with what they actually want.

It’s not about taking over the process. This is the side of planning most couples don’t get to see… but it’s the part that as a result changes the client's experience of their wedding planning.

Head over to this week's Journal where I go over how I manage the communication with the hotels and what happens behind the scenes.

This Friday, I’m celebrating! A beautiful couple trusted me with their wedding planning, and that truly makes me so happy.

Today I found myself reflecting on that decision… and on how different their experience is going to feel because of it.

Their planning journey gets to be joyful. They get to actually enjoy being engaged… while having someone by their side guiding them through every stage and every decision.

And it made me think about something I don’t talk about enough. What does the “free” wedding planning service at a hotel actually mean?

Because “free”… is never really free, is it? It always comes at a cost. And sometimes that cost isn’t obvious at the beginning.

Today’s journal goes a little deeper into that — not to scare you, but to help you understand how the wedding planning process actually works behind the scenes, especially at large resorts, in ways most couples don’t see upfront.

If you’re curious, I shared everything in my latest journal.

Hello everyone, happy sunny Monday from the Chicago suburbs.

Today I found myself reflecting on something I don’t always say out loud… I didn’t plan this career.

I started in corporate events, learned the technical side of planning down to a science, and eventually stepped into weddings feeling confident in my ability to execute beautiful events.

But weddings are different. They’re emotional, and deeply personal. And if I’m being honest, there was a time when I didn’t fully understand that part.

That changed when I became a bride.

Planning my own destination wedding in Mexico gave me a completely new perspective — one that no amount of experience could have taught me.

It’s the reason I approach my couples the way I do today. With more patience, more empathy, and a deeper understanding of everything that goes into the decisions behind the scenes.

This is a little piece of that story. Check out my Journal to get to know me better
