Please join COMTO Chicago in celebrating our Mover of the Month, Tamakia Edwards! Tamakia “TJ” Edwards is a powerful example of resilience, purpose, and leadership rooted in lived experience. Becoming a mother at 16, she refused to accept limits placed on her future and transformed doubt into determination. Today, she serves as Executive Director of the Illinois Capital Development Board, leading the historic $9.6B Rebuild Illinois Capital Program and overseeing hundreds of projects that strengthen communities statewide. One of the few Black women leading a statewide infrastructure agency, TJ is known for building accountable teams, stabilizing complex systems, and leading with authenticity and service.

COMTO will be celebrating its 55th Anniversary during the 55th National Meeting and Training Conference from July 25–28, 2026, in Washington DC!
This year, we celebrate a milestone anniversary back in the city where COMTO was founded in 1971. For this conference, COMTO seeks innovative and cutting-edge proposals for presentations, panel discussions, and workshops that are relevant to the conference theme: 55th Anniversary Theme: Rooted in Legacy, Driving the Future of Transportation.
Accepted proposals will fall into one of the following four (4) workshop tracks:
Track 1 – People, Power & Purpose in Leadership
Track 2 – Technology, Innovation & the Future of Mobility
Track 3 – Access & Partnerships Driving Economic Opportunity
Track 4 – Honoring Our Journey – 55 Years of COMTO History
Submission and Notification Timeline:

Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, COMTO Chicago joins the nation in celebrating MLK Day — a moment to reflect, recommit, and rise to the work still ahead. Dr. King taught us that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” and his vision continues to guide our efforts to build a transportation industry rooted in equity, access, and opportunity for all.

As we honor his legacy, we reaffirm our commitment to:
Expanding pathways for Black and Brown professionals
Advancing equity across all modes of transportation
Building communities where mobility is a right, not a privilege
Leading with courage, compassion, and purpose

Today is more than a day off — it’s a day of service, reflection, and action. Let’s continue the work Dr. King began by moving our communities, our industry, and our nation forward.
