This past weekend was an eye-opening reminder of what our business truly stands for.
We were called to help an 85-year-old woman on the west side of Cincinnati move her most valuable belongings into storage. She had lived in her home for over 40 years. Unfortunately, she had been scammed by an out-of-state company and her $150,000+ home was purchased from her for just $30,000.
With eviction day approaching on Monday, time was not on her side.
Our team of three worked within a 5-hour labor budget to pack and move as much as we could. But the truth is — there was no way we could get everything done in that time. And that didn’t sit right with us.
After following up with her, Haul It All owner Reco Gunnels Jr. personally stepped in and returned the next two days — free of charge — to make sure the job was done right.
While working, she asked him a question that hit hard:
“Why is none of my family here to help me?”
In that moment, the weight of responsibility felt bigger than just moving boxes. It was about showing up for someone in our community who needed help.
Reco stepped away for a moment, gathered himself, and got the job done.
