WE ARE HIRING: WATER METER READER
Job description
The Coleman County Special Utility District is accepting applications for a water system operator. Applicants need to be dependable, responsible and a self-motivated individual. Duties will include collecting meter readings for utility service billing; providing a variety of utility services including completing work orders; connecting, transferring and disconnecting service, performing rereads and clearing area around meter boxes.
A pre-employment background check along with a drug and alcohol screening will be required.
Pay=DOE. Applications can be picked up at 214 Santa Anna Ave., Coleman, Texas.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
β’ Drive to water meter locations throughout the day; read water meters on an assigned route; record reading information on hand held meter device; report any abnormal readings, leaks, damages or tampering.
β’ Perform re-reads on meters when unusually low or high readings have been recorded.
β’ Clear area around meter boxes for accessibility.
β’ Clean and service assigned vehicle; maintain proper fluid levels; have minor repairs completed as necessary.
β’ Install and reset meter boxes and lids throughout the system as directed.
Ability to:
β’ Investigate and determine reasons for unusual water consumption, low pressure and other service problems.
β’ Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
β’ Work outdoors in adverse weather.
β’ Work independently.
β’ Operate and use a variety of tools and equipment necessary for the performance of assigned duties.
β’ Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
β’ Drive safely and observe all traffic laws.
Experience:
No experience is required.
Education/Training:
Provided by the District
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Possession of valid driverβs license required and a clean driving record.
The ability to obtain the required license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
β’ Regularly required to walk up to four (4) miles daily.
β’ Regularly required to use arms and hands to lift meter lids and clear/clean area around and in meter boxes.
β’ Occasionally required to climb fences to reach meter.
β’ Regularly required to bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch.
β’ Regularly requires a great deal of hand and arm movement.
β’ Occasionally move and/or lift weights up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
