Norm was loved by so many that we were simply unable to respond to everyone, but rest assured—we have read every message and appreciate each and every one of you. It's safe to say Norm made a difference in countless lives.
The family has asked that you join them in celebrating his life with this beautiful tribute written by his daughter, Mackenzie.

Celebrating the Life of NORMAN RUEBLING
September 16th 1953 - June 25th 2026
Some people simply pass through life, but Norman Ruebling charged through it with unmatched energy, an infectious personality, and a heart for people.
While Norman had many wonderful qualities, the one that shaped his life more than any other was his faith in God. Above all else, his unwavering faith was the foundation of his life. He knew that every blessing he received was a gift from God, and that faith gave him joy, hope, and a deep love for others.
Born in Troy, Missouri, in 1953, Norman discovered his love for music very early on. He earned his Master of Education from the University of Missouri before taking his talent on the road with multiple bands.
His passion for music and people naturally led him to teaching, where he inspired generations of young musicians. He began his career as a band director at Union High School, where he built a marching band known for its excellence, discipline, and unforgettable performances. He continued his band directing career at Southeastern Louisiana, Emporia State, and ultimately returned home to the University of Missouri, where he served as Director of Marching Mizzou and Mini Mizzou from 1988 to 1993.
Norman’s influence went far beyond the classroom. He helped shape music education and leadership programs across the country. He served as Camp Director for Bands of America and worked alongside Bowl Games of America. But the music never stopped for Norman. For more than 30 years, he served as the drummer for the Norm Ruebling Band, bringing music to audiences across Missouri.
In 1999, Norman co-founded MO-X and Doc & Norm Direct in Columbia, Missouri. Like everything Norman did, he built his business on relationships, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to people. Along with his transportation business, Norman’s love for people led him to give back to his community. He devoted countless hours to charitable causes, including co-founding the Phat Guys, a group whose commitment and generosity raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities.
Norman’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie; his son, Keegan (wife Katy); his daughter, Mackenzie (husband Matt); his two grandsons; his sister, Rhena; and many nieces and nephews, who will carry on his passion for music, humor, and love for people.
Whether you knew Norman for a moment or a lifetime, chances are he left you better than when he found you. While our hearts are broken, we choose to celebrate a life that was lived boldly, generously, and, above all, joyfully.
