‼️‼️‼️BURN BAN‼️‼️‼️
Alcorn County is now under a local emergency burn ban at this time March 23rd 2026 it will expire April 6th 2026 at midnight. Upon which time we will reevaluate if it needs to be extended.

Violating a burn ban in Mississippi is illegal. Anyone who knowingly burns during a ban can be charged with a misdemeanor and face fines ranging from $100 to $500.  In addition, if a fire escapes and causes damage, the individual can be held financially liable and in severe cases, could face jail time.  Burn bans are put in place to protect lives, property, and first responders—ignoring them puts the entire community at risk.

We are expecting the system to move in to our area around 7-11 pm. Storm shelters are open and available at the fire department. Please make sure not to block the driveway and the doors to the fire station.

Also, please be aware that the wind can dislodge trees damaged from Fern and limbs can fall unexpectedly.

From NWS: A combination of gusty winds, somewhat dry fuels in locations and low relative humidity values will lead to significant fire danger today. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect in portions of south Mississippi and northeast Louisiana in the Highway 84 corridor where drier fuels are located. Open burning should not be attempted as wildfires will spread rapidly in the Red Flag Warning area. To the north, open burning is discouraged as fires are more likely to escape control.

Since January 25, the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department has responded to 38 emergency calls, including:

8 structure fires or fire investigations

17 medical emergencies

22 public assistance calls

Firefighters have logged more than 1,500 volunteer hours clearing hundreds of fallen trees from homes, roadways, and driveways, helping residents regain access and safety following severe conditions.

Behind every response were countless hours of preparation. Every fire truck was equipped with chains, saws were sharpened, fuel was checked, and equipment was staged and ready before calls ever came in.

In addition to emergency response, Farmington FD assisted with logistics involving thousands of gallons of fuel, helping ensure continued operations for Farmington Water, law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency shelter transportation.

This is what volunteer service looks like—quiet preparation, long hours, and a commitment to show up when the community needs help most.
