Bystander September Bits!

šŸ‘ Rob Sirn, one of our long-time artists for our Bystander Adventure books, has just won an award for designing and drawing (which has been turned into a t-shirt) for a charity program for mental health!
Three cheers for rob! šŸŽ‰
šŸ‘ Bystander Group LLC has just had a new book published in time for two upcoming book signings for author, Chris Lambert. It is called, ā€œBatman Dailies.ā€

šŸ—“ļøSaturday -September 19th, from 12pm until 4pm at the Barnes and Noble Mentor, Ohio, right outside the Great Lakes Mall for National Batman Day! Chris will bring some of his Batman knick-knacks from when he was a kid for you to see along with coloring pages for the kiddos!
Chris will be selling and signing copies of his new book and talking pop culture, film, television, comics, books and just about everything else.

I found this Batman book in a collection of stuff I bought recently and although it is Batman…I hate it! You see, it is a ā€˜have your own adventure’ book. But I don’t want a book to ā€˜give’ me an adventure, I want to read a good adventure story! If I WANT my own adventure…I’ll go climb a small mountain to see if I can get to the top!

This painting was a joke of sorts by someone, but also an homage to myself, who always drew a picture of myself on cards to my friends. My friends began to name the constant (birthday and Christmas cards, for sure) figure of myself, the ā€œWavingā€ or ā€œSmilingā€ Man picture. And then one day, for my birthday, I received this painting of myself by a young friend named, Chloe. I just had to hang it up in my den where it stands today! Thanks again, Chloe!

This is my Captain America poster on my closet door. It is the cover of Cap #116 as Gene Colan took over the artwork for the book. I love this cover of his. It was produced by the old A.C.T.O.R. company, (a commitment to our roots, now changed to The Hero Initiative) an institution geared towards raising funds for artist in need in their old age, for medical purposes and so on. At the time, Gene had many health problems and the comic book companies did not usually give benefits of any kind. He was a dear friend of mine and the funds at the time helped a great deal.

This past week I was cutting up fruit and had a razor-sharp butcher knife go through my left index finger. As I pulled the blade away, I saw no blood until I bent my digit, opening up a big gash!
And since I’ve been talking about different types of records this week on Facebook, let’s just say I now have one of my favorite bands on my left hand…you know…A Badfinger!

The other day, I showed a picture 45 record, but now I’m going to show you a picture sleeve (of one of my favorite Beatle songs) of an EP (Extra Play). Instead of a single or LP album (Long Player) an EP had four songs to it with two on each side.

Now, when I was very young, I was happy to find a single (45 record) with a picture sleeve, like I’m showing on my Substack post this week. But to get an actual record with the picture burned into it?
WOW!

Since this post is the 250th Face Book post that I’ve made, I just had to pick one of my favorite comic covers of the same number.

Yes, the book of comedy drawings all fall into the ā€˜Far Side’ type of cartoons, but I had to include it for the name of the book alone (my last name as well!)

Guess what happened in August (this very month) 61 years ago? The Beatles released their album and second movie, (the one in color) ā€œHelp,ā€ which was a great ā€˜spy spoof’ movie and a great album. But although I like the Ken Thorne instrumentals on the back side, the English version was better since it introduced a slightly newer sound of the Beatles, with songs like, ā€˜Yesterday,’ ā€˜I’ve Just Seen a Face’ and ā€˜It’s Only Love,’ steer the Fab four away from simple pop songs to more deep love songs as well as ā€˜think’ piece type songs that the band would continue on ā€œRubber Soul,ā€ the album that came about five months later.
