Daily advice: although this may look fun, I don’t recommend trying it with a fully loaded semi. The mess after isn’t worth it.

Tip of the Day: Treat your business like it’s dating. Whether you’re an owner operator, company driver, dispatcher, shipper. Don’t stay in toxic relationships. If a shipper is making your life miserable, a dispatcher isn’t performing for you, a carrier is too difficult to work with.

Odds are your best bet is to move on and find business elsewhere. You are going to wind up spending too much time trying to fix a problem that is best left in the past. There will always be more opportunities out there in our industry.

A genuine question as a relatively new owner of a dispatch company. I am not new to the industry, I was a broker for 5 years and got sick of the job pinning me against the carriers. I felt great at what I did, but decided I would rather help small carriers instead of large companies.

For any truckers for small companies or owner operators. For obtaining new carriers, do you see any benefit of going to trucking expo's? I have 2 owner operators currently, but I don't want to cold call drivers to blow up your phones with spam and only want to work with those who truly want and would benefit from dispatching services. I am not asking any of you to use me as your dispatcher, but any advice on obtaining new carriers would be greatly appreciated.

Heads up flatbeds — steel out of OH this week is paying strong but most brokers are requiring coil racks and chains. Make sure you’re not showing up under-secured.

Quick Tip for Owner Operators:

If freight feels slow in your city, try expanding your search radius to 100-120 miles. Some markets are dead zones, but the next major city over can have completely different rates.

A short reposition can be worth it if it sets up a strong reload.

Quick Tip for newer carriers:

Before booking a load, check the broker's credit score and days-to-pay -- Not just the rate. A $300 higher rate doesn't mean much if you wait 45+ days to get paid or have to chase them down.
