Houston Pilots

Houston Pilots Since 1921 we have piloted the port that built the city

The Houston Pilots Association provides pilotage services to all foreign flag vessels and American vessels under register (regulated vessels) entering or departing the Port of Houston, Harris County, Texas, as required by Texas state law. Pilotage is provided 24-hours per day, 365 days per year, in all weather and port conditions, unless closed for safety, for example, poor visibility, high winds, and storm warnings.

Being a ship pilot gives us the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world. 🌎⚓️

It’s always rewarding to meet young mariners eager to learn—sharing our experience and perspective with the next generation is something we truly value.

Coming in hot!

Our bar boats are SWATH vessels (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) ⚓️

With twin submerged hulls, they minimize wave impact and provide an exceptionally stable platform—critical for safe pilot transfers. Their wide, open decks are designed for efficiency and safety in every boarding.

This advanced design reduces motion in rough waters, which is essential when pilots are stepping onto moving ships via ladders.
