Tower Talk Thursday! 🎙️

See that big metal container being loaded into our aircraft? That’s a ULD, short for Unit Load Device.

Instead of loading thousands of packages one by one, they’re packed into ULDs (containers or pallets) ahead of time. Then the whole unit rolls straight into the aircraft and locks securely into place. ⚙️

Why it matters:
📦 Faster loading and unloading, which is key when every minute of the overnight window counts
🔒 Cargo stays secure and protected in flight
✈️ Containers are shaped to fit the aircraft, making the most of every inch of space

Tower Talk Thursday! 🎙️

Ever wondered why so many cargo planes have propellers? Meet the turboprop!

A turboprop is a turbine engine (the same basic technology inside a jet engine) that turns a propeller instead of pushing air straight out the back. You get the reliability of a turbine with the efficiency of a propeller. ⚙️

Turboprops are especially efficient on shorter routes and can operate from smaller airports with shorter runways. That makes them perfect for feeder flying, where we connect communities of all sizes to the larger cargo network. 📦

Every aircraft in our fleet is a turboprop: the Cessna Caravan, the Cessna SkyCourier, and the ATR 42 and 72. Different sizes, same mission: getting packages where they need to go.

Tower Talk Thursday! 🎙️

Three letters every aviation mechanic knows: AOG, short for Aircraft on Ground.

It means an aircraft is grounded and can't fly until a problem is fixed. In the aviation world, it's the highest-priority call in maintenance. When an AOG comes in, parts get rushed, mechanics get moving, and everyone works toward one goal: getting that aircraft safely back in the air. ⏱️

In overnight cargo, timing matters even more. Packages are counting on us, so our maintenance team works around the clock to keep our fleet ready to fly. 🌙

A big shoutout to our mechanics, the people behind every on-time departure. 🙌
