"For more than two months, Amazon violated a California paid sick leave law intended to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, at facilities in California’s Inland Empire, according to letters between Amazon and California’s Labor Commissioner's Office obtained by MOTHERBOARD.

But after California’s Labor Commissioner Office sent a series of four letters to Amazon, including a warning, the company has agreed to comply with the law, which went into effect in April." — VICE News

The push to make life at Amazon better is not over, but corporate DOES respond to pressure. This was only possible because Amazonians are speaking out. Let's keep pushing.

Motherboard obtained letters between Amazon and the California’s Labor Commissioner Office saying the e-commerce giant was violating a state paid leave law enacted to prevent the spread of Coronavirus but now will comply.

What do we when the bosses don't let us know about paid sick leave opportunities that can keep our families safe? We fight back!

"After two months of back and forth, and outcry from elected officials throughout the region, Amazon has FINALLY agreed to notify workers of this crucial opportunity for paid sick leave as the COVID-19 crisis continues."

Special thank you to all the Amazonians who helped shed light on the company ignoring state law. Amazon only acts when we do.

If you need help accessing a doctor, let us know.

Here is The Guardian article previously written about the situation locally: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/may/07/amazon-warehouse-workers-coronavirus-time-off-california

This is a must-read — "The number of positive cases was twice what many workers suspected. At least 45 workers at MSP1 had tested positive by the date of the memo, more than double than what some workers had estimated by that point based on texts, voicemails, and other communication from management."

Is this happening in our community?

"For months, Amazon has been sitting on information that could have helped prevent workers in my facility from getting sick and spreading the virus to our families."

This is disgusting. If you'd like to talk about this, our DMs are open.

"Corina said Amazon cleaned up the graffiti but did nothing to address the issue, so he filed a formal complaint.

Meanwhile, another employee posted a picture of one of the racist remarks on Twitter and tagged Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s chief executive officer. That’s when civil rights attorney Stephen King said Amazon fired his client..."

According to workers, the graffiti started last November and escalated after the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis.

"60 Minutes has learned that a cleaning method that Amazon demonstrated on our broadcast – a "disinfectant fog" that the company said would help control the spread of COVID-19 throughout its facilities – is neither EPA-approved nor recommended, and has never been.

The company has informed 60 Minutes that it is no longer in use. "

🧐

Amazon tells 60 Minutes it has stopped using the fogged disinfectant that the company originally said would help control the spread of COVID-19.

LGB3: "I would say... I don't know. I think it's an interesting question. I really couldn't tell you."

"Before dawn on March 29, he left home in his Honda Civic, radio tuned to classic rock, and made the drive down to Orange County to work the early morning shift hauling and sorting packages before they went out to customers’ homes.

Two weeks later, in the early morning hours of April 12—his 27th wedding anniversary—Harry Sentoso would be dead."

RIP Harry 🧡😢

Harry Sentoso, 63, went back to work at Amazon as part of the company's hiring wave. Two weeks later, he was dead from COVID-19.

Today, LGB4 in Redlands, yesterday LGB5 in San Bernardino and DLA5 in Riverside, and last week LGB3 in Eastvale. Infections at work continue to pop up.

Executives recently announced they'll end "Appreciation Pay" on May 31st, after making huge profits during this crisis (AKA we stop being heroes?) — We deserve better.

Amazonians Unite!

Amazon employees — Amazonians — in Southern California’s Inland Empire do some of the most important work at the company. The products we pick, scan, and sort reach the hands of Americans from throughout the country, and because of our work, Americans love the company we work at!

But there is an upper management problem at Amazon. We see it every day — bad scheduling, injuries at work, and wages that are pitiful when considering that the richest man in the world is our employer.

There is another way — researchers at UCLA stressed this in 2016, writing, “Because of their critical ‘chokepoint’ role in the supply chain, these workers hold a yet-unfulfilled power to change the rules of logistics.”

AMAZONIANS IN THE IE MUST UNITE.
