If you’re over 50 and thinking of going to Greece, these are my recommendations as the best islands to visit.

I’ve been to all of them and I think they’re all wonderful in their own way.

I have to say, though for Santorini it is so expensive and crowded. You may only wanna do two nights there and move on to another island.

Italy temporarily suspended the border-free Schengen rules with Spain for flights and boats.

Passengers traveling between the two nations face targeted identity or passport checks.

This political and security step follows a sudden surge of migrants entering the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco.

What the Suspension Means: There will be targeted border checks. Italy has implemented selective checks at air and sea borders specifically focusing on non-EU nationals arriving from Spain.

Right now, there is No Total Ban for Citizens, standard travel for EU and Spanish citizens remains largely open, though identification processes are tighter.

The emergency measure was enacted for a duration of one month.

Italy also coordinated with France to reinforce checks on the Franco-Italian land border.

EU baseline (applies almost everywhere): 18+ to buy/use, ni****ne capped at 20mg/ml, e-liquid bottles max 10ml, tanks max 2ml. Countries then layer their own stricter rules on top.

Disposable v**es banned from sale since Feb 2025 (refillable ones still fine). No va**ng on public transport or in most indoor spaces. Outdoor va**ng is still legal (the new outdoor smoking ban exempts e-ci******es).

Legal 18+. Banned indoors, on public transport, near schools/hospitals. Va**ng near pregnant women or minors outdoors can bring a fine up to €275; other public-space violations range roughly €27.50–€750 depending on source/region.

Banned indoors, on transit, and increasingly on beaches/terraces under a stricter 2026 to***co law reform. Fines €30–€2,000 depending on location.

Legal 18+, now regulated like ci******es under the To***co Products Act. No indoor public spaces, no public transport/train stations except designated zones. A national disposable-v**e ban was approved in 2025. Some cantons add their own outdoor restrictions.

Still allows disposables (unusual in Europe now). Banned indoors/transit; fines up to €500. Va**ng with a child under 12 in a private car: up to €1,500. Nicotine-free e-liquids aren’t sold there at all.

Airports and planes:

• Airport va**ng = designated outdoor smoking areas only, before security. Once through security, there’s typically nowhere to v**e until landing.
• On the plane: zero exceptions, on every airline. V***r sets off smoke detectors, and getting caught can mean a fine or removal from the flight.

If you have a European Airbnb booked this summer — or you’re even thinking about it — stop scrolling and read this.

The EU just got serious about short-term rentals. Hosts who aren’t complying are facing fines up to €60,000 — and listings are being pulled down across Europe right now.

Here are my three tips to protect your trip:

1. Book early. The best legitimate, registered properties are already disappearing. The sketchy ones will be the last ones standing.

2. Check your listing for a registration number. It is now legally required across the EU. No number visible? Keep scrolling.

3. Have a backup plan. Identify a boutique hotel nearby before you go. If your host gets shut down mid-trip, you’ll be so glad you did.

Europe is still absolutely magical this summer. Just go in with your eyes open.

How will you know if you’re really going to enjoy your vacation or not well it might be surprising, but scientist say it has more to do with who you go with then where you go!

Science just validated every solo trip I’ve ever taken.

And honestly? I’m not even a little surprised.

Researchers found that the biggest factor in whether you actually enjoy your vacation has nothing to do with the destination, the hotel, the itinerary, or how many Michelin stars were involved.

It’s who you go with.

Let that sink in for a minute. 😏

If you’ve ever come home from a so-called “dream trip” feeling exhausted, resentful, or quietly furious at someone you used to like — you already know this is true. You didn’t need a research study. You needed a different travel companion. Or none at all.

Here’s what nobody tells women over 50: the most radical travel decision you will ever make is simply deciding that your preferences count. Your pace. Your itinerary. Your budget. Your agenda. Not negotiated. Not compromised. Not quietly abandoned at the airport because someone else had a stronger opinion.

Society will have thoughts about this. Society always does. Women our age are apparently supposed to be home, saving money for the inheritance, waiting to be needed.

I have been to 40 countries. Thirty of them alone. I have eaten solo at tables for two in Paris and hiked through villages where nobody knew my name and watched the sun set over places that made me genuinely speechless.

Not once did I wish I had brought someone who needed three hours to get ready.

With the war in Iran, the airline industry has been massively impacted with the new doubling of the cost of airline fuel.

We’ve all seen Spirit Airlines go out of business. Other airlines are struggling too.

Travelers, as of May 1, Spirit Airlines is preparing to shut down after failing to secure a $500 million government bailout, though Trump says he’s still considering a taxpayer-funded takeover “if it’s a good deal.” 

This is active and fluid — here’s what Spirit passengers need to know right now:
If Spirit shuts down completely (liquidation):
Liquidation brings a very different playbook than restructuring — refunds, rebooking, and loyalty balances all face far more uncertainty.  Specifically:
• Credit card bookings — your best protection. Dispute the charge immediately as a service not rendered. Most major credit cards will side with you.
• Travel insurance — check your policy right now. Airline bankruptcy/cessation of operations is covered by some policies but not all. Read the fine print tonight.
• Free Spirit miles — the safest move is to use them on a near-term trip immediately if the redemption makes sense.  In liquidation, loyalty points typically become worthless.
• Other airlines will NOT honor Spirit tickets — unlike when airlines do interline agreements. You’d need to rebook at your own cost.
• DOT passenger rights — file a complaint at transportation.gov/airconsumer and keep all receipts.
What to do right now, today:
1. Screenshot your booking confirmation
2. Note how you paid — credit card is your lifeline
3. Check your travel insurance policy language for “airline insolvency” or “cessation of operations”
4. Watch Spirit’s official channels — if they announce shutdown, rebook on another carrier immediately before prices spike
5. Use those Free Spirit miles today if you can
