On October 4, 1636, the first legal code composed in North America was instituted at Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. Plymouth Colony was founded by Pilgrims, Protestant dissenters from the Church of England who came to North America (by way of Holland) in search of religious freedom. This legal code in some respects helped to lay the groundwork for the future American legal system, in that it guaranteed citizens the right to a trial by jury and a democratic form of government.

When you lead a class trip to the Boston area, you can also include a visit to Plymouth, where you can spend time at the Plimoth Patuxet Museums. These museums re-create life in Plymouth Colony in the 17th century. While in the area, you can also see Plymouth Rock, which is believed to be the place where the Pilgrims disembarked their ship, the Mayflower. In Boston itself, you can visit many sites of importance to U.S. history, like Boston Common, the Paul Revere House, and Old North Church.

If you are interested in leading a class trip, whether to the Boston area or elsewhere, we would love to serve you. Please contact our dedicated team at (877) 235-0988 or email [email protected] to create unforgettable memories with your classmates!

On this day in history, September 26, 1777, British troops entered Philadelphia and began an occupation of the city.

Days earlier, the Second Continental Congress, which had been meeting at what is today Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, was forced to flee. With the British occupying Philadelphia, George Washington and his army spent the winter at Valley Forge, a short distance west of the city. In the Spring of 1778, the British would abandon Philadelphia and make their way to New York City.

Philadelphia is a city full of colonial history, and history relating to the Revolutionary War. Student groups can still visit Philadelphia’s Independence Hall and the nearby Liberty Bell. A trip to Philadelphia can also include nearby Valley Forge and Pennsylvania’s Amish country.

If you are interested in leading a class trip to Philadelphia or any other destination, we would love to serve you. Please contact our dedicated team at (877) 235-0988 or email [email protected] to create unforgettable memories with your classmates!

In the year 1814, the Battle of Baltimore began. This battle was a turning point in the War of 1812, which was fought by the United States and the British. In August of 1814 the British occupied and burned Washington, D.C. They then decided to sail up the Chesapeake Bay and launch an attack on the city of Baltimore, which was then the third-largest city in the United States.

Standing to the south of the entrance of Baltimore Harbor was Fort McHenry. On September 12, 1814 the British engaged with the Maryland militia, who eventually retreated. On the morning of September 13th, sixteen British ships approached Fort McHenry and bombarded it for 25 hours. Fort McHenry, however, withstood the onslaught, and the British departed on the morning of September 14.

One witness of this battle was Francis Scott Key, who was being held aboard a British ship. Seeing the American flag still flying at Fort McHenry on the morning of September 14, he wrote a poem which would become the lyrics to what we now know as the National Anthem.

Today, you can visit Fort McHenry with your students. It’s not too far from Washington, D.C., so this visit could be a part of a broader Washington, D.C. area itinerary. If you are interested in traveling with your students this year, we would love to serve you.

Today marks the founding of the Jamestown Colony, the first permanent English settlement in North America 🇺🇸

The colony was founded on May 14, 1607. Its founding was a venture carried out by the Virginia Company. Three ships brought English colonists to the Chesapeake Bay, where they arrived in April of 1607. The colonists located a site to settle, naming it Jamestown after James I. The early years of the colony were difficult, as violent encounters with Native Americans and disease took their toll. During the winter of 1609-1610 the population was decimated by starvation. Eventually, however, the surviving colonists would go on to develop an economy based on to***co.

Jamestown was an important chapter in American history. Today, students can visit the site of Jamestown and experience what it would have been like to be among the colonists who originally settled there. Near to Jamestown is Williamsburg, which served as the capital of the Virginia Colony from 1699 to 1780, and was an important city during the Revolutionary War. Also nearby is Yorktown, where the British General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington. Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown are collectively referred to as the “Historic Triangle.”

If you are interested in taking your students on a class trip that will enhance their understanding of American history, consider bringing them to the Historic Triangle.
