If you haven’t noticed it’s been a little chilly outside lately… which means it’s a perfect time to work on models! We wanted to display one of our members, Mike, who does beautiful weathering! He weathered a ScaleTrains Rivet Counter BNSF ex ATSF Dash 9

Progression of weathering:
1. Masking
2. Matte clear coat
3. Panel line accent paint
• Black, brown, grey
4. Brown and rust chalk
• Light dusting
5. Airbrushing
• 5–6 light coats
6. Smokebox graphics
• FRA stripes applied
7. Final matte clear coat

ScaleTrains makes an amazing model. The factory weathering prep really helps, especially on the roof, which is easy to make pop. Just a few hours of work takes it that extra step further!

You can come and see models like this and more during our next display at the Allentown Spring Thaw Model Train Meet the weekend of February 21st & 22nd!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend at the Oaks Convention Center for Greenberg’s Great Train & Toy Show! If you took any photos or videos please feel free to share them and tag us!

We’re always asked how long setup usually takes, and the answer is: it depends on the size of the layout and how many helpers we have. This weekend, setup took about 4 hours.
Most people probably don’t want to watch a four-hour video of us setting up a layout… so here’s a 30-second time lapse!
