A moisture meter can be a valuable tool during a fiberglass boat inspection, but the number on the meter needs context.
Surveyors can compare relative readings across decks, transoms, hull structures, and other composite areas to identify locations that deserve additional attention.
High readings do not automatically mean a core is wet or structurally damaged. Hardware, tanks, wiring, coatings, surface moisture, temperature, and construction differences can influence the results.
That’s why moisture readings work best alongside visual inspection, percussion sounding, and professional interpretation.
