The drive from Boise, Idaho to Stanley along Highway 55 is an absolute dream for anyone chasing geothermal magic.

Our recent 6 day road trip turned into the ultimate hot spring hunt, and it did not disappoint.

We hit six incredible springs along the way—some were just a quick pull-off from the main road, walking right up to steaming pools tucked into the landscape.
We even managed to get a few of these wild gems completely to ourselves.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of sitting in natural, mineral-rich hot water while an icy river rushes right beside you. The water mixing together was a unique feeling or hot spots on top of cold spots.

Alternating between the soothing, steamy pools and a heart-pumping cold plunge in the river is an experience you just can't replicate anywhere else.
The mountain views surrounding every single soak were absolutely incredible.

To break up the drive, we booked a campsite halfway through the route at Pine Flats Campground.

If you are planning a similar trip, securing a reservation here for the night is a game-changer.
Not only is it a beautiful spot to camp, but a short hike from the grounds leads you directly to a stunning hot springs waterfall pouring right out of the cliffside.

The government said Alabama wasn't "wild enough." She proved them wrong. 🌲👇

In the 1970s, the powers that be didn’t think anything east of the Mississippi River was rugged or wild enough to be protected.

But Mary Ivy Burks wasn't going to let that slide. She fought hard, and in 1975, the Sipsey Wilderness right here in Bankhead National Forest became the very first designated wilderness area in the Eastern United States!

While I’m dropping some Alabama hiking history today, I’m also putting some new roots in the ground. 🌱

We just hit 172 new followers yesterday, which means 172 flowers are going in the dirt to celebrate this incredible On Top Travel community 🌸

The one Bankhead Alabama hike anyone can do!

If you’ve always wanted to explore the Land of a Thousand Waterfalls but you aren’t ready to log miles deep in the backcountry, you need to head straight to Kinlock Falls.

Located in the heart of the Bankhead National Forest, this massive tiered cascade requires almost zero effort. You literally pull off the road, walk down a short flight of steps, and you’re standing right next to a stunning mountain swimming hole. It’s the ultimate hidden-in-plain-sight adventure.

🗺️ THE NON-HIKER’S GUIDE TO KINLOCK FALLS 🌿

If you love jaw-dropping nature but hate long treks, this spot was practically made for you. Here is exactly how to experience it, hassle-free:

🚙 How to Get There:
Kinlock Falls is located on Kinlock Road on the western side of Bankhead National Forest (about 1.5 hours southwest of Huntsville). If you plug "Kinlock Falls" into your GPS before you lose signal, it will take you right to it.

🅿️ Where to Park:
There is no official gravel parking lot! You will park directly on the shoulder of the dirt/gravel road right before you cross the concrete bridge over Hubbard Creek. Look for other cars pulled off to the side.

🥾 What to Expect & Hidden Tips:

* The Trail: It’s less than a 100-yard stroll. You’ll see a short, rustic set of steps leading down from the roadside straight to the top of the falls.

The Slick Factor: While it’s incredibly short, the sandstone rock around the water is notoriously slick. Swap the cheap flip-flops for a pair of sandals with actual strap-on grip or water shoes so you don't slip!

Zero Cell Service: You will lose all bars long before you hit Kinlock Road. Put your maps in offline mode or download an offline area on Google Maps before you leave the house.

The Vibe: Because it’s so easy to access, it’s a very popular local swimming hole in the summer.
Go early on a weekday morning if you want the place all to yourself. 📸

The internet is losing its mind over the new National Park rules for non-citizens, and frankly, the complaints are getting ridiculous. 🙄

For decades, international tourists got a free ride on the backs of American taxpayers, paying the exact same gate fees while our parks suffered from massive budget cuts and overcrowding.

Now that the US is finally charging non-residents $100 extra per person- ($250 annual pass) while US Citizen's price stays at $80 per annual pass-at 11 major parks, people are threatening to boycott American travel entirely.

Let them.

Our parks are struggling with crumbling infrastructure, and this new revenue goes directly back into fixing them.

Why are people so upset that America is finally putting its own citizens and taxpayers first?

It looks like a tropical paradise, but it’s hidden right in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

Here is exactly how to plan your trek:

🥾Start at the Three Forks Trailhead in Diamond Fork Canyon (about an hour from Salt Lake City).

It’s a 4.5-mile out-and-back trail with about 630 feet of gradual elevation gain. It’s rated moderate, but totally doable!

Follow the main trail along Sixth Water Creek, cross the footbridge at Mile 1.1, and follow the smaller Fifth Water Creek up to the pools.

The further up the canyon you go, the hotter the pools get. Find one that fits your vibe!
