This week felt different.
Bluefin numbers climbed hard across Southern California, with 878 bluefin landed over the last 3 days across 16 landings. Pacific Queen put 168 tuna on the deck in one trip, while multiple San Diego boats continued to stack fish on overnight and multi-day runs.
At the same time, rockfish kept producing volume across the fleet — more than 6,900 landed this week for anglers who wanted action closer to home.
The patterns are there heading into the weekend.

SoCal sportfishing — Mon through Thursday recap
The fleet put up real numbers this week. 15 landings reporting, 1,577 anglers Monday through Thursday, 10,549 fish landed.
The trip of the week came out of Channel Islands Sportfishing — the Mirage took 17 anglers overnight and brought home 340 fish. Rockfish and whitefish dominated, with lingcod and calico bass mixed in. 20 fish per angler is a number you don't see often.
Wednesday May 6 was the standout day at the dock — Channel Islands Sportfishing alone reported 1,035 fish across 70 anglers. Mixed bag with everything from rockfish to white seabass.
Bluefin held strong all week for the SD fleet. H&M Landing put up 176 BFT on Monday alone. Seaforth backed it with 138 the same day, then another 96 on Wednesday.
Yellowtail showing up too — the Grande and San Diego both reported solid numbers from Coronados runs Sunday, and Pursuit out of 22nd Street put 11 in the box on a Full Day. Mixed bag potential is there.
Half-day and 3/4-day boats produced — Stardust, Coral Sea, Speed Twin, Freelance all averaged 13+ fish per angler on Wednesday. Plenty of options if multi-day bluefin trips aren't on the radar yet.
Same fish, same boats this weekend.

Rockfish boats are stacking 500-600+ fish on half-day and 3/4-day trips right now.

Offshore bluefin is still happening on the longer trips, but this weekend's story is how much action you can get without going far.

Short trips. Big counts. Reel action😉

The weekend bite is starting to line up across Southern California.

Bluefin tuna numbers like this are not typical for April and several boats are already reporting strong fish-per-angler counts. Yellowtail are pushing across multiple zones, with coastal rockfish limits still wide open.

If you’ve been waiting for a weekend to get offshore, this one is shaping up to be worth watching.

🎣 FYNC Weekend Trip Picks — April 17-19, 2026

Here's where we'd be fishing this weekend based on the latest fish counts across all 21 SoCal landings:

🏆 TOP PICK: Seaforth Landing — San Diego
Seaforth put 92 Bluefin Tuna on the dock on Wednesday. That's a remarkable number for mid-April — tuna season is running well ahead of schedule in 2026. If you can do a 1.5-day trip this weekend, San Diego is where you want to be.

🎯 BEST FOR LIMITS: Davey's Locker — Newport Beach
425 Rockfish and 95 Sculpin yesterday with 56 anglers. If you want to fill the cooler, Davey's half-day and ¾-day trips are the call this weekend.

🏝️ BEST OVERALL VALUE: Channel Islands Sportfishing — Oxnard
357 Rockfish and 290 Whitefish on Wednesday. 1,380 upcoming trips means you'll find the right departure time. Overnight trips here are consistently some of the best fish-per-angler numbers in SoCal.

⭐ SLEEPER PICK: H&M Landing — San Diego
29 Yellowtail landed yesterday at the Coronados. The yellows are showing — a full-day Coronado trip this weekend could be special.

🎣 FYNC Weekend Wrap-Up — April 10-12, 2026

Three days of exceptional fishing across 21 SoCal landings. Here's the full breakdown.

📊 The Numbers:
Friday April 10: 40 trips | 1,105 anglers | 8,700+ fish
Saturday April 11: Fleet-wide reports show consistent limits across LA, OC, and SD
Sunday April 12: 41 trips | 1,036 anglers | 8,900+ fish

🐟 What Was Biting All Weekend:
Rockfish — Limits were standard. 5,361 on Friday alone. Coast-wide all 3 days.
Whitefish — 1,400+ daily
Red Snapper — 300-475 per day
Yellowtail — Showing at Catalina Island, Coronado Island, and Cortez/Tanner Bank
Bluefin Tuna — 34 Friday → 195 Sunday. The numbers jumped hard.
Yellowfin Tuna — 75 Sunday (in April — well ahead of schedule)
Lingcod — Strong all weekend
Bonito — Making their seasonal return

🏆 Weekend Standouts:
• Victory (Long Beach Sportfishing) — Limits of rockfish AND limits of sculpin Saturday. Kevin's crew delivered all weekend.
• Enterprise (Pierpoint Landing) — 250 rockfish limits Friday, limits again Saturday. Most consistent boat of the weekend.
• Eldorado (Long Beach) — 304 whitefish + 190 rockfish on an overnight Friday
• Coral Sea (Stardust, Santa Barbara) — Rockfish limits all 3 days. 248 rockfish + 155 whitefish + 16 lingcod Saturday.
• Freedom (22nd Street) — 10 yellowtail up to 25 lbs Saturday + halibut in the mix
• Toronado (Pierpoint) — 5 yellowtail 15-20 lbs + bonito + rockfish on the 1.5-day Cortez/Tanner run
• Sport King (LA Waterfront) — 200 rockfish + 40 red snapper + 10 barracuda Saturday
• Polaris Supreme (Seaforth) — 160 yellowfin + 13 bluefin on a 3-day. Wide open bite all day.
• Pacific Voyager — 51 bluefin tuna + 11 yellowtail + 45 lingcod returning from a 2-day Sunday
• Speed Twin (Channel Islands) — 250 rockfish + 117 whitefish for 25 anglers on a half-day

🚨 The Story of the Weekend:
This was a special opening weekend. Bluefin and yellowfin tuna in force in mid-April is ahead of schedule — Sunday's 195 bluefin across the fleet is a serious early-season number. Yellowtail were biting at Catalina and the Coronado Islands. Killer whales were spotted off Santa Barbara Saturday morning before Stardust put their anglers on limits. And rockfish limits were so routine across the coast they almost became an afterthought.

If 2026 keeps up this pace, it's shaping up to be one of the best seasons in recent memory.
