Keeping it real
It seems we rarely actually ask each other how we're doing and truly mean it.
Not because men don't care about each other.
I think most of us are just really good at knowing when a conversation is supposed to stay on the surface.
There's a time and place for that, and certainly not every interaction needs to become an existential excavation.
But I we need places where the opposite is possible, too.
Places where you can say “actually, things aren't great” without making people uncomfortable or regret asking.
Where you can change your mind and admit you don't know and that you don't have all the answers.
Where you can talk about something you're struggling with without turning it into a performance.
A place to say the thing you probably wouldn't say at work, at home, or while standing around making small talk after church.
And maybe most importantly, a place where being honest with other people makes it a little harder to lie to yourself.
That's part of what I've always wanted Savage Gentleman to be.
A place where we can ask better questions and be honest about the ones we don't know how to answer yet.
