Transitioning from cruise life back to home life has been quite the adjustment!
"Planned overs" are still tasting great—well, most of them! Sometimes adding a bed of rice or canned potatoes really freshens up the flavor profile. We had chicken and bowtie pasta this evening, and I made sure to add plenty of Cajun seasoning for that extra kick.
Currently, I’m digging through boxes and deciding what’s worth keeping, donating, or "flipping" for resale. I’ve also realized that keeping up with the dishes is a real chore! On the ship, we don't have to worry about rinsing, washing, or unloading, and I’m definitely missing that luxury. I’m also having to get used to remembering my wallet and keys again, whereas on vacation, I hardly ever had to drive. Plus, I’m suddenly having to remember things like checking the ice levels in the freezer!
That said, there are some perks to being home. Nothing beats the comfort of my own easy chair or having pillows that cradle my head just right. And, of course, making a classic grilled cheese sandwich with butter in a cast-iron skillet is miles better than anything I had on the ship—you definitely won't find Beanie Wienies on a cruise menu!
How are you all doing with your post-vacation transition? Do you have any favorite "home comforts" you miss while traveling?
