Flight only a bit bumpy Chicago ORD to Tampa. Guess that would be expected with a hurrucane coming ashore today near Destin, FL. The captain kept the flight attendants seated - no water service , even. Safety being prime concern.

Kudos to the wheelchair pushers, both at ORD & TPA. Kind & Efficient. Plus the hotel shuttle arrived right away. It was #31 dispatched to us. Great job. No real challenges today.

Pretty cool to watch "Fly Me to the Moon". GO, NASA

We packed two bags of extra thin pretzels in the suitcase. We ran out of the pkg we had for "in home consumption". Whah! Not going to open the new bag.

We made chocolate chip cookies last week and saved some of the dough for the freezer. A cookie is not pretzels...but who is complaining? These are the best cookies in the world.

Cleaning up the flat surfaces and seeing that everything is tidy before we leave. Keeping the last couple of toaster pastries for the trip. Self-control...What do you know? We have Authentic Stroope Waffles from The Netherlands. "That'll do!"

Sophisticated coffee. Not "pumpkin spice" - this is subtle but better. A tiny sprinkle of ground cardamom with ground cinnamon. Made the "store brand" of decaf completely sophisticated. Great for a cozy & simple evening at home.

We bring along some ground cinnamon on our adventures. This can be something special to experience at home.

"Hygge" Danish/Norwegian word. Basic meaning - cozy (coziness). Enjoying simple things. Examples: s soft throw blanket on the couch with a good book and enjoying a non-hectic evening with loved-ones. It sometimes may include a warm beverage, fresh-baked goodies or a warm mug of savory soup.

Elli made some very amazing soup this afternoon. Basically it's broccoli cheese soup with some embellished with Fontina cheese, cauliflower, cream cheese, whole milk, a "to be never known" list of spices (garlic, black pepper, home picked/dehydrated garlic scapes etc.). Then the final addition for this masterpiece was potato gnocchi (shelf stable from ALDI).
..and it's SO Yummy! Brava, Elli!

One ship had popcorn for $4 +20% mandatory gratuity. The other ship charged $2.49 + 20% mandatory gratuity.

Home, quarter cup popcorn kernels (stored in a quart-sized mason jar), 1 TBSP butter, 1 TBSP Extra Virgen Olive Oil (we brought back from Portugal) and a microwavable-safe (Pyrex "old school" made in the USA - casserole - covered, of course) and five minutes in the microwave. No pre-measured convenience packaging...

It's just So Yummy!

Laundry from trip finished. Washed our sheets before we slept in our own bed. Suit cases completely unpacked. All caught up on the mail etc. Reorganizing the living room.

Be Careful It's not always what it sounds like. Examples:
"Guardo" in Italian means "I watch."
"Guardo" in Spanish means "I keep track of something."

"Prendo" in Italian means "I bring it (with me)".
"Prendo" in Spanish means "I put it on (wear) or turn it on (like the light, or the radio".

Balancing cruise life with "at home" frugality... Grilled cheese sandwich with "old school" white bread, American process cheese product and real butter. So yummy!

Even though they have cookies on the ship, they are not our family's special recipe. About to head in to "Whip up" a batch. Mouth-watering goodness that you just can't get on the cruise ship.

Even though we'll be in Greece, I would need to learn a whole new "alpha beta" (sic. Haha!). I'll be trying, though.

Cat. = (Jo) menjo un entrepà.
Ital. = (Io) mangio un panino.
Turk. = (Ben) sandviç yerim.

Months ago we made stuffing with canned chicken. We ate it then and put some in the freezer for later. "P**f" (passing of time) We arrived home last night and took it out of the freezer. We had affixed a piece of wide masking tape on the lid & written with a permanent marker "it's too dry & needs more chicken."

So when it was defrosted this morning, we got out a large skillet, added another large can of chicken and heated it up on the gas stove. When it was hot enough - time for a taste test. It needs more sage. "wouldn't you know it...we were out of sage" (Salvia). Garlic and black pepper to the rescue. Of course we have ground cilantro from Portugal and paprika from Spain and parsely from Italy...but no sage (from the USA).

It was so delicious. Planned overs from the freezer. Seems to be one of our specialties.
