Today is National Taco Day, and I have a very important travel question: how far would you go for a really good taco?

For me, food is part of getting to know a place. The salsa you want to bring home. The little spot someone local recommends. The meal you’re still talking about months later.

‘Somewhere warm’ is actually a perfectly acceptable starting point.

Maybe you don’t know exactly where you want to go.

That’s okay.

You don’t need to come to me saying:
“I want this exact resort, this room category and these dates.”

You can say:
“We have five nights.”
“We want a gorgeous beach.”
“My husband wants good food.”
“The kids need things to do.”
“I do NOT want to cook.”
Now THAT I can work with. 😂

Two careers. One thing they have in common.

Teaching fourth grade and planning vacations sound like completely different jobs.

And they are.

But there’s one thing I love about both.

Taking care of people.

In my classroom, I want my students to feel known, supported and capable.

With my travel clients, I want you to feel listened to, prepared and cared for.

Different worlds.

Same heart.

The vacation starts long before you get on the airplane.

For my clients, vacation planning often starts months before the first suitcase gets packed.

There are questions.

Decisions.

Room categories.

Transfers.

Dining.

Deadlines.

Documents.

And approximately 47 tiny things that nobody puts in the glossy resort photos. 😂

One of the questions I get with Sandals is whether upgrading the room category is worth it.

And the answer depends less on the room and more on YOU.

Are you celebrating something?

Do you love extra service?

Will you spend a lot of time in your suite?

Do you want someone helping with reservations and little vacation details?

Or would you rather put that money toward another night?

There are times I absolutely recommend upgrading.
