Fun Fact:

There are more possible games of chess than there are atoms in the entire observable universe.

It’s called the Shannon Number — and yes, it’s absolutely mind-blowing.

Fun Fact Friday

Before modern landfills existed, many towns used old gravel pits and quarries as dump sites once they were “used up.”

Some of the places we drive on today started out as holes in the ground — then got filled back in over decades.

Dirt, gravel, and hauling have more history than most people realize.

Happy Friday from Apex!

Cold Weather Tip for Gravel Driveways

Freeze/thaw cycles can really tear up gravel driveways if they’re not prepped.
Water gets in, freezes, expands, and pushes stone around — that’s how ruts and potholes start.

A few things that help:
• Proper grading before winter
• Good drainage away from the drive
• Adding fresh gravel in weak spots
• Avoiding heavy loads when the ground is soft

A little attention now can save a big mess in the spring.

Snow day!

With all the snow and cold, we decided to take a day to slow down, enjoy the snow, and spend quality time with family. Days like this are a good reminder that it’s okay to pause, step away from the hustle, and just enjoy each other. Hope everyone is staying warm and finding a little joy in the snow today

Winter Fun Fact:

Fresh snow can actually act like a blanket, insulating the ground and helping protect buried utilities by trapping warmth underneath.

With the storm expected this weekend, take it slow and stay safe out there. If the snow leaves you with blocked driveways, heavy piles, or anything you can’t handle yourself, Apex is here to help.

Extreme Cold Reminder

With this cold weather sticking around, please be careful what gets left outside.

Cold temps can make plastic totes, garbage cans, mattresses, and furniture brittle, causing them to crack or break when moved. If you’re planning a pickup or cleanout, keeping items inside or covered helps avoid damage and makes removal safer and quicker.

If the cold has you needing to clear space, clean out a garage, or get rid of bulky items — Apex is here to help. Stay warm and stay safe out there.

Fun Fact Friday

Did you know that in the early 1900s, homeowners in some U.S. cities were legally responsible for shoveling the sidewalk in front of their house — even though the sidewalk was city property?

If someone slipped and got hurt, the homeowner could be fined or sued.

That old rule helped shape how we still think today: owning a home doesn’t stop at your front door — it comes with responsibility to the community, too.

History is weird… but kind of interesting.

Big improvements don’t always require massive projects.

We recently helped a homeowner by cutting off topsoil and hauling in fill dirt to get their ground where it needed to be. Clean, solid, and ready for the next step.

No job is too small or too big. Whether it’s a few loads or a full site cleanup, we’re happy to help get it done right.

Water problems around your home don’t always start underground.

A lot of the crawlspace and basement moisture issues we see actually start outside — improper grading, missing gravel, or soil that holds water right against the foundation.

Gravel isn’t just for driveways. When used correctly, it helps:
• Move water away from your home
• Reduce pooling after heavy rain
• Protect foundations and crawlspaces long-term

If you’ve got standing water near your house after storms, it’s worth paying attention to before it turns into a bigger (and more expensive) problem.
