The spread: roast turkey with cornbread and giblet gravy, sliced roast beef au jus, and Southern baked ham, alongside mac and cheese, cream corn, green bean casserole, black-eyed peas, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, salad, rolls, and a table of desserts to close it out.

The mornings are just starting to cool off. The water's still warm enough for one more swim. And the bluff view from the balcony hasn't changed a bit.

This is the quiet stretch between summer and fall, and it might be our favorite part of the year.
