✈️ DID YOU KNOW? AS A PILOT, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO PERFORM CERTAIN MAINTENANCE ON YOUR AIRCRAFT! 🔧

Under 14 CFR Part 43, eligible pilots may perform certain preventive maintenance on aircraft they own or operate.

Some examples include:

🛞 Removing, installing & repairing landing gear tires
⚙️ Cleaning & greasing wheel bearings
🔩 Replacing or cleaning spark plugs & setting the gap
🛢️ Cleaning or replacing oil strainers & filter elements
🔋 Replacing & servicing batteries
💡 Replacing position & landing light bulbs
🔧 Certain lubrication tasks

The complete list of preventive maintenance tasks can be found in 14 CFR Part 43, Appendix A(c).

⚠️ JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN, DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN YOU SHOULD.

If you haven’t performed a particular maintenance task before, get proper instruction and training from a qualified aircraft mechanic. Work alongside an experienced A&P and learn the correct procedures before tackling it yourself.

Knowing that a task is legally considered preventive maintenance doesn’t automatically mean you have the knowledge or experience to perform it safely. Know your limitations.

📖 DON’T FORGET THE LOGBOOK!

After performing authorized preventive maintenance, make the appropriate maintenance-record entry in accordance with 14 CFR §43.9 and properly approve the aircraft for return to service for the work performed.

Know the regulations. Get proper training. Have the correct tools. Follow the maintenance instructions. Document the work. Fly safe. ✈️
