Honoring Those Who Gave Everything

This Memorial Day, we pause.

Before the long weekend, the open highways, and the first real trips of the season, we take a moment to remember why those freedoms exist at all. Every mile of road ahead of us, every sunrise seen from a campsite, every quiet morning with a cup of coffee and nowhere in particular to be, these are gifts. And they were paid for by men and women who never made it home.

Memorial Day is not about sales or kickoff weekends. It is about sacrifice. It is a day set aside to honor the members of our armed forces who gave their lives so that the rest of us could live ours fully and freely. The freedom to travel, to explore, to gather with the people we love, none of it is guaranteed. It was earned, again and again, by those willing to lay everything down.

To the families who carry an empty seat at the table: we see you, and we are grateful beyond words. The loss you live with every day is the reason this day exists. We hope you feel honored, not just remembered.

So as our community sets out on the road this week, we ask you to carry a little of that gratitude with you. Take a moment of silence. Fly the flag. Tell the story of someone who served. The greatest tribute we can offer is to live good lives in the freedom they secured for us and to never forget the cost.
