A bitter cold front has come through. I enjoyed taking a few moments to sit by the window with a pile of cozy cashmere and wool sweaters on my lap, taking them apart at the seams while watching the birds on our back patio.

The sweaters I'm disassembling were knit in sections and then assembled with chain stitch (second photo); taking them apart is a matter of finding the ends of the chain stitch and "unzipping" them--very satisfying!

Once taken apart into sections, I move to my skein winder where I unravel the yarn directly into hanks. More on that another time. Perhaps if I get a little tripod for my phone, I can film myself at work. I tend to be slow to adopt new technology, and camera shy to boot, but I'll get there!

Day one of 2026. I spent the day working on house projects at our little cottage in Galveston, wrapping up just in time to walk to the beach and catch the sunset with my husband and three little ones. Hopefully before bedtime I'll have at least a few minutes to unravel some especially "sticky" pink cashmere. A nice first day of the year!

On my goal list for the year: reviving this long-dormant "yarn account." Though I've been quiet on social media, I'm still actively unraveling and listing recycled yarn. My yarn shop on Etsy just celebrated its fifteenth birthday! Not to toot my own horn, but I think it's safe to say I'm a recycled yarn expert at this point, and I look forward to sharing more about it with anyone who might be interested. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: Sold!
I've been plying lace weight recycled yarns together to make thicker yarns. This periwinkle yarn is 100% cashmere and is made of 6 lace weight strands cable plied together to make a light worsted weight. This luxurious one of a kind skein will be listed soon!

One of my favorite things to do is to put together little batches of mini skeins to list in my destash shop. These are all the leftover bits and bobs--the larger skeins of yarn are sold individually at Thoughtful Rose Supply. I group colors and weights that I think look nice together. I imagine that you could use these in a little woven wall hanging, or cushion cover, or they could be used in a really luxurious striped hat. Have you bought my minis? I would love to see what you've done with them!

Recently listed: the prettiest golden yellow cashmere yarn, thoughtfully reclaimed (by me) from a gently worn women's cowl-neck sweater. Thoroughly washed and neatly skeined, this yarn is ready for a new project.

From last week: agonizing over color names for the yarn I was listing. I resorted to a Sherwin Williams color deck for inspiration. 😄 I ended up calling the one on the left "lupine blue" and the one on the right "azure blue." Currently available in my Etsy shop.

More reclaimed cashmere yarn, coming soon to my destash shop! Unfortunately, some cashmere sweaters these days are manufactured from cashmere that's not as strong and durable as the higher quality stuff. When I come across this more delicate cashmere, I list it at a discount in my destash shop. It's still deliciously soft and warm, and works beautifully held together with a stronger yarn. I'm hoping to get these three lots listed later tonight or tomorrow morning.
