I see there are some new followers here (welcome!) and so I thought it would be a good time to write a short bio.
My name is Amenah. I’m originally from Iraq and have lived in Houston, Texas for the past 24 years. I’m a mom of 3 little ones. My oldest daughter is 5 and my twins (one boy and one girl) are 2. I’m a lawyer by profession. I practice corporate immigration law.
I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a little girl but I didn’t start painting on canvas until the summer before I started law school. After sharing my art on Facebook, I was invited to showcase my work at the first ever Islamic Arts Festival in Houston. It’s hard to believe that was 10 years ago! I continued to paint while I was in law school and even sold many of my paintings in Houston and all across the US.
My art has always been a means to express what I feel deeply in my heart and I believe this authenticity allows it to resonate with others. A lot has changed in my life the past several years and unfortunately I felt I lost my motivation. I didn’t know if I would ever paint again. But along my new journey of healing and self-growth, I’ve decided to try to get back to my hobby and use it as a way to express myself again.
I’m currently working on a new painting, titled “Gratitude” which I hope I can share here tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone who is here and following along in my journey!
