The LOST section of Yosemite?! 🏔️

Most people don’t know that Yosemite National Park used to be WAY bigger than it is today. 🌲

When Yosemite became a national park in 1890, it protected more than 1,500 square miles of land.

But in 1905, Yosemite’s boundaries were redrawn, significantly shrinking the park. Mining, logging, and grazing interests pressured the federal government to shrink the park’s boundaries in order to subject to resource development.

Today, Yosemite covers about 1,187 square miles.

This history matters because we’re facing a similar fight over our public lands right now!

The current federal government is proposing to repeal the Roadless Rule, which protects nearly 60 MILLION ACRES of our National Forests.

If those protections are removed, millions of acres of previously protected roadless forests will become more vulnerable to logging, mining oil extraction, road building, and other development.

Tuesday, October 6 is the LAST DAY to submit a public comment!

Comment “ROADLESS RULE” and I’ll send you the direct link to leave a public comment in support of the Roadless Rule!!

If you care about keeping our public lands wild and accessible for future generations, now is the time to speak up.

Literally what is wrong with people… 😡

Yesterday we were on a hike and we came across this absolute mess in a forest service bathroom… 🌲

🧻 Toilet paper EVERYWHERE (including TP COVERED in p*e!!)
🐶 Bags of dog p**p tossed in the corner
🐣 DIRTY diapers on the floor

Like, your mom isn’t here to pick up after you?! Don’t be such an irresponsible slob!! Some poor Forest Service Ranger is going to have to pick up this disgusting mess. It’s not fair to them, OR to other public lands users. 🏔️

It’s not hard. It’s your responsibility to pack out your trash (these bathrooms don’t have bins for a reason…), and to put toilet paper in the toilet. When you recreate, ALWAYS follow Leave No Trace principles. 🛑

Be a good person to the environment, our public land, AND to our forest service rangers. 🧡

ANCIENT fossils in Glacier National Park! 🦴 🏔️

📍 Grinnell Glacier Trail

🧡 SEND this to someone who’d love seeing these fossils!

Did you know that Glacier National Park has fossils that are over 1.5 BILLION years old?! And you can see them up close!

Stromatolites were ancient lifeforms that once dominated shallow seas WAYYY before the age of the dinosaurs, mammals, birds, and insects. 🦴

You can now find stromatolite fossils scattered around the park, but my favorite fossils are along the Grinnell Glacier Trail. It’s wild to think that these fossils were once at sea level, but through geologic processes got pushed to the top of the Rocky Mountains, and have since been polished smooth by the glaciers that once carved these mountains. That’s some WILD geology! 😳

Here are the trail details 🧡⤵️

✨ Trail: Grinnell Glacier Trail
🥾 Distance: 10 miles (round trip)
⛰️ Elevation gain: 2,041
🐻 Note that this trail commonly has grizzly bears! We saw two, which thankfully had zero interest in us, but we always carry two cans of Counter Assault Bear Spray bear spray just in case!

Let me know the coolest fossil you’ve ever seen! 👇🏼✨
