Words fail in expressing my profound sorrow in informing you that FW&PCOA Webmaster and Honorary Life Member Walt Smyser has passed away. Walt’s wife Pam contacted Tim McVeigh this morning to inform him that Walt suffered a fatal heart attack at work.



Few have worked so tirelessly, for so long, to make the FW&PCOA Florida’s preeminent professional water and wastewater operations organization. His contribution is so substantial and so widely known that attempting to recount it here could only diminish it. More important, Walt was our friend, uniquely capable of speaking challenging truths when they needed to be spoken, a man of unfailing wit, intellect, and capacity, unencumbered by the restraints of false humility which prevent so many of us from achieving our full potential.



We have suffered a personal and professional loss that even time will struggle to resolve. Our thoughts, prayers and pledge of personal support and, and will remain with Pam.
