Fishing has changed over the last week — have you noticed it? 🎣

Here’s the simple science behind it. Stripers are open-water fish that are heavily influenced by water temperature and food. They’re cold-blooded, so the water controls their body temperature and metabolism. Warmer water also holds less oxygen, which can make recovering after chasing bait harder, especially for bigger fish. That’s one reason stripers may move deeper or feed more during cooler parts of the day.

Last week’s weather cooled the lake from the mid/high 80s into the mid-70s in areas I was fishing and the bite fired up. Now I’m seeing water temps back into the low 80s, and the fish have changed with it.

The biggest takeaway from today: STOP CHASING EVERY SHAD YOU SEE ON THE SURFACE! We caught our fish in 30+ feet of water. When we found deeper schools of shad on the graph with stripers around them, the bite was on.

Capt. Kenne had another one-man crew this morning, and he was on a mission — fill the freezer with a limit of stripers! Mission accomplished, and we limited out an hour early! 💪🎣

The bite was definitely slower in the North Basin today, but it stayed steady enough to get it done. Water temps were in the mid-70s this morning and the water is still pretty murky. Bait wasn’t nearly as prevalent as it has been, so we had to hunt around a little more to stay on the fish.

We kept our 10-fish limit ranging from 14–21”, and interestingly, their bellies were pretty much empty.

I did get a few reports after I was already off the water of some BIG schools of shad with stripers down south. I didn’t get a chance to investigate it, and honestly, I’m not sure I would’ve left where we were anyway. I have one golden rule…

DON’T LEAVE FISH TO FIND FISH! 😂🎣

🎣 Lake Havasu Fishing Report – September 29

Capt. Kenne had a crew of 1 today! After last night’s storm, air temps were in the high 60s at daybreak and water temps have dropped into the mid 70s — fall fishing is definitely starting to show!

Mark kicked off the morning with a NEW PB largemouth bass! 🔥 After that, we spent the rest of our 3-hour trip absolutely crushing the stripers!

There’s still TONS of bait up in the North Basin and the fish aren’t far behind. We finished with 30+ fish, all catch and release! The birds were the key to staying on a steady bite today, so don’t forget to look up every once in a while! 👀🐦🎣

Capt. Kenne had an awesome father-and-son crew all the way from Alaska this morning for a 3-hour charter from 6–9 AM! 🎣

Water temps have officially dropped below 80°, and the bite continues to heat up! We started up by the casino where there was still TONS of bait, but all the stripers we found were dinks in the 12” class, so we decided to make a move up to Mesquite Bay.

That move paid off! We marked tons of fish and found a good school of stripers in the 15–20” class boiling on the surface with birds busting the water all around us! 🔥 We ended the morning with 34 fish caught and kept 10 for the cooler—another action-packed morning on Lake Havasu!
