Devils Tower is known as Bear Lodge or names with similar meanings in several Indigenous traditions. Native people have traditionally used the area for prayer, ceremonies, offerings, and vision quests.

Today, many Native Americans continue to consider the site sacred. You’ll sometimes see prayer cloths and other offerings tied to trees around the monument. Visitors are asked not to touch or remove them.
