We’re a finalist! carboncoremasonry has been named one of the Top 10 finalists by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce as one of the Coolest Things Made in Colorado - we are excited and honored.

Carbon Core has deep Colorado roots. The technology was invented in Golden and is manufactured by the Summit team at both Lakewood and Pueblo plants. By incorporating olivine sand into clay masonry, each brick is designed to sequester roughly one pound of atmospheric CO₂ while improving the brick’s performance, strength and durability.

We are also in the running for the People’s Choice Award. If you think this carbon sequestering brick is pretty cool, we’d be honored to have your vote. Visit the Colorado Chamber of Commerce Instagram page to vote from their link in their bio. You can vote once a day through October 22 and select up to three finalists each day.

📱 If you’re voting on a mobile phone, double tap Carbon Core to select it before submitting your vote.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. Making the Top 10 is already something we’re incredibly proud of, and we’re excited to see what happens next!

What happens when you put a room full of brick researchers, engineers, and innovators together? Ideas, conversations, and a lot of excitement about the future of brick!

Summit’s VP of Mining & Environmental, Julie Welte, joined colleagues from across the country in Georgia for BIA’s inaugural Research Summit.

The two days were filled with conversations around innovation, new approaches to education, products, and processes, and opportunities to continue growing brick’s role in the built environment.

Thank you, BIA, for bringing this group together 🧱❤️

Summit’s Ivy League Smooth makes a splash in Chicago! “Brick is one of the most fundamental materials in architecture. Each piece is a little bit of the earth itself, molded to a shape that fits easily in the hand, baked to achieve permanence and then stacked, one atop another, to form a wall that can enclose, shelter and delight us.”

“Designed by En Masse Architecture and Design Ltd. (En Masse Architecture and Design) with a+c architects, the design displays a sense of weight that’s appropriate for brick construction. Subtle stringcourses tie the punched windows together. The initial rendering showed deep horizontal banding around the building’s corner that were unfortunately omitted, but the building holds up under scrutiny.“

Thank you Edward Keegan and the Chicago Tribune for this feature on natural clay brick and its relevance in architecture today. And thanks to the design teams at En Masse and a+c for specifying and designing so skillfully with this one of a kind brick.

Welcome to the world, Infinity blends! If you seek a thin brick blend in shades of gray with industry leading compressive strength and 10% embodied carbon reduction, you’ve found it. Sample these blends by emailing [email protected]. Flip through to see all 4 blends with varying mortars to show how significantly mortar color affects the blend field. Fun fact, mortar makes up 17% of the visible wall.

On the Greenwood Building in Austin TX, Summit’s “Alaskan” and “Ebonite” by Glen-Gery are in perfect harmony as designed by the Michael Hsu Office of Architecture and Studio ELES. Thank you, Acme Brick Company, and the masons at CD Lonestar. The color combination and curved vertical stack bond on this project show how a mix of brick makers on a single project can bring to full life the architectural intention.

A day in the life with Glover Masonry and Confluence on a warm Colorado day. This project is utilizing a 70/30 blend of Thistledown and Light Gray Grain Modulars. Thistledown is a light white gray with slight warm sandy tones made in Pueblo. Light Gray is a classic light gray, aptly named, with cooler tones made in Lakewood. We’ll check back with the finished product!

An inside peek from the Lakewood Plant at how clay brick trimmings are returned to the grinding process after extrusion. When you hear about “zero waste manufacturing” in brick production, this is part of the circular economy that makes that possible. Come see us at the plant to see this in real time. We are now offering The American Institute of Architects credit with plant tours for our architect friends!

“Scottsdale Smooth” is one of the most unique bricks in our lineup. Do you see the patterning of Arizona’s badlands landscape in this brick?
