Tropical Storm Bertha

Livingston Parish residents should continue to monitor Tropical Storm Bertha as it moves through the northern Gulf. While no significant changes have been made to the expected impacts for our area, officials continue to closely monitor the storm's track and intensity.

Key Updates

• No significant changes to expected impacts for Southeast Louisiana.
• The Storm Surge Watch has been replaced by a Coastal Flood Warning.
• Coastal Flood Advisories are now in effect around Lake Pontchartrain and along the open coast west of the Mississippi River.
• The Tropical Storm Watch has been upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning for coastal Jefferson and coastal Lafourche Parishes.

Current Situation

Tropical Storm Bertha has shifted slightly north of previous forecasts but is still expected to turn westward later today or tonight. Current forecasts indicate the storm will move across or near the Southeast Louisiana coast Tuesday into Wednesday.

At this time, rapid intensification is not expected due to current environmental conditions.

Here is the latest update regarding Tropical Depression #2 (potentially Tropical Storm Bertha) from State Climatologist Jay Grimes.

Confidence in the overall forecast continues to increase, but there are still several uncertainties that residents should keep in mind.

Currently, the system remains somewhat disorganized and is being impacted by wind shear and dry air. However, gradual strengthening is expected, and it may be upgraded to a tropical storm later today.

The most important thing to remember is to focus on the forecast cone, not a single forecast track. Because this system is expected to move slowly over the next couple of days, even small shifts in its path could significantly change impacts across southeast Louisiana.

At this time:
🌧️ The heaviest rainfall is expected to remain closer to the coast and offshore Gulf waters.
💨 Tropical storm-force winds are forecast mainly across coastal portions of southeast and south-central Louisiana.
