This week's booking calendar: Alaska, Santorini, and everything in between

Some weeks in this office are quiet. This wasn't one of them.

By the time I looked up from my inbox, our team here at Cruise Planners® of Southwest Louisiana had booked trips across three continents and every season of life. Honeymoons. Milestone group trips. The cruises out of Galveston our regulars book like clockwork. All in the same week.

Here's what went out the door.

The group trips people are already asking about:

Our Alaska hosted group for 2027 picked up multiple bookings this week, alongside new names on our Alaska cruisetour for 2028. Both are the kind of trip that fills a plane full of people who've never met, and by day 3 they're trading numbers.

We also locked in more travelers for the Dear Me Southern Boutique Escape in 2027, and a New England lighthouses road trip that's shaping up to be one of my favorite domestic itineraries we've built in a while.

The trips built around one big moment:

A honeymoon in Santorini went out this week. So did one in Costa Rica. Two completely different vibes, same job: get out of the way of two people who just got married and let the destination do its work.

We also started planning a multi-gen Disney Destinations vacation, the kind where grandparents, parents, and kids are all on the trip together and everybody's idea of a good time has to fit in the same itinerary. That takes more coordination than people expect. It's also one of my favorite kinds of trip to plan.

And the everyday stuff that keeps us busy

Layered in with all of that: our usual cruises out of Galveston. Steady, familiar, the trips that don't make headlines but make up the backbone of what we do every week.

None of these bookings happened because someone stumbled onto a discount code. They happened because a client sat down with an advisor, said what they wanted, and let us build around it. That's the difference between booking a trip and having one planned for you.

Today I called my mother and said four words I don't say lightly: I need you.

I'm 48 years old, running my own agency and the feed store had its own list of things blowing up at the same time. I hit a wall I couldn't climb over alone, and the first person I thought to call wasn't a consultant. It was my mom.

A client sent me a spreadsheet once. Four months of research, every resort color-coded and priced out.

Before I looked at any of it, I asked her one question. What does this trip need to do for you right now.

She got quiet, then told me her husband had just retired and neither of them knew what to do with each other yet. That was the real trip. Not the resort with the nicer pool.

More research doesn't make a trip more right. It just makes the wrong trip more thoroughly planned.

Somebody wants to nap.

Somebody wants a pool with a swim-up bar.

Somebody’s chasing waves.

Somebody just wants five minutes where nobody needs anything from them.

That’s not a wish list.

That’s a normal family beach vacation.

Most resorts are built for one kind of traveler.

The good ones are built for all of yours at once, quiet coves near the loud pools, a kids’ club that’s actually good, a bar close enough for the adults to still hear the kids laughing.

I don’t pick a beach.

I pick the one that works for your whole crew, at whatever stage of life they’re all in right now.

And the best part, I don’t need an AI generated pic to tell you about it.

I’ve already got a camera roll full of the perfect spot, because ya know, I’ve actually been there 💚

Bags packed. Coffee in hand. Fort Lauderdale, I'm coming for you in just 48 hours. ✈️

I'm off to Star U with Cruise Planners this upcoming week to get our brand-new franchise fully wired up and ready to go. Think of it as behind-the-scenes magic so Cruise Planners of SWLA can run even smoother for you.

A few things while I'm off being a travel nerd:

The office is closing a touch early today, and I'm off the grid through the weekend (even I need a break before the break-neck training starts). Starting next week, I'm back and taking requests, but by email and text only while I get the new systems humming.

July is my favorite month to be in Alaska, and it's not close.

The fireweed is everywhere by then. We stood in fields of it around Denali National Park, watching caribou graze right through the purple, close enough to hear them.

Up near Redoubt Lodge by Mt. Redoubt, the salmon were running upstream and the bears were right there working the water for their next catch. Not a wildlife documentary. Just standing there, watching it happen 50 feet away.

That's the month things line up. Salmon runs, fireweed blooming, wildlife active and visible instead of hiding from the heat or the cold. Alaska in July isn't a maybe. It's the peak.

The destination is never really the point. It's whatever season of life you're actually in when you book it that makes the journey memorable.

I made some intentional changes this year. New business, new vision, and finally some clarity about what I actually want. This is what I've learned about letting go of other people's stuff so you can focus on yours.
