A few more beautiful places I explored while visiting Banff and Jasper National Parks! 🇨🇦🏔️❤️

This is my final roundup of the beautiful places I haven’t yet shared from this part of my trip. I hope this video, along with my other posts, inspires you to visit and experience the incredible beauty of this area for yourself.

Of all my van adventures so far, **this has been my favorite trip to date!** And that’s saying a lot, because I’ve seen some pretty amazing places along the way. ❤️🚐

Bright blue skies, interesting wisps of white clouds, the green of a pine tree… the colors of nature make my soul stir while bringing me peace at the same time. 💙🌲

It’s one of the reasons I always leave home in the winter. Louisville gets, on average, about half the sunshine of the area where I grew up, and when the landscape turns gray during the winter months, I have a hard time being here.

There were a few gray days toward the end of our stay in Jasper, and I had some pictures I loved, but the skies were flat and gray. It got me wondering what those pictures might look like in black and white, and that question has sparked my curiosity!

I had a few pictures of the town of Banff taken from Sulphur Mountain that also looked a little washed out, so I decided to try converting one to black and white. And you know what? I think I might really like this one! Which honestly surprises me. 😂

I’ve worked so hard with her over her short four years of life to help her not be reactive while we’re out on the road, so we can enjoy moments like these together. 🐾

She does SO good at simply observing without disturbing, but every once in a while, she likes to test the limits with a little low growl. 😂

Progress, patience, and lots of practice… all worth it for moments like these! ❤️

When you think you’re too good to ride with anyone else and lie about being claustrophobic, the Lord reminds you to behave by placing you in a gondola car where someone let off a REALLY nasty fart right before exiting. 💨🤢🤣

Sorry, Lord! I deserved that one. 🙏🏻😂

Also, I have a REALLY LOUD laugh! My friends say it’s one of the best things about me, but I find it quite annoying. Haha! 🤣🤦‍♀️

And if you’ve ever ridden the gondola in Banff, you know that BIG SWING you get when it exits the building! 😳😂 That’s what set off the loud laughter. I just can’t help myself! 🤣🤣🤣

It’s always a roll of the dice… will a place you’ve dreamed of visiting through social media posts actually be as beautiful in person?

Peyto Lake along the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park IS THIS BLUE!💙🏔️

The rock flour produced by glaciers grinding the surrounding rock washes into many of the lakes in this area and scatters the light, creating those jaw-dropping, unforgettable colors.

Many of the lakes in the Canadian Rockies are recognizable because of their surrounding mountains or their distinctive shapes. Peyto Lake is especially recognizable for the shape on the far right side of the lake, which resembles a wolf’s head.

For anyone going to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, I think Lake Louise is at the top of their sightseeing wish list. It certainly was on mine.

But after visiting, I found myself with a long list of places I enjoyed more.

Maybe my lack of enthusiasm was partly due to poor planning, but I also think it was more than that.

Our time at Lake Louise was limited, I didn’t get shuttle reservations far enough in advance and I wasn’t able to snag one of the reservations released two days prior either, they go like hot cakes! We ended up hiring private transportation to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, which gave us limited time at each location.

Would I have enjoyed Lake Louise more if I’d had time to do one of the hikes? I’d love some feedback from anyone who has spent more time there.

My overall impression? It was SO crowded. People lined the entire shoreline in front of the Fairmont Chateau, and quite frankly, there were just too many people for me.

The hotel property is restricted, with access limited to hotel guests, and with the price tag, I can certainly understand the exclusivity. 😂 That didn’t stop my friend from walking straight through the front door like she was a hotel guest in pursuit of coffee. She succeeded and then promptly let me in through the side door. 🤣

Anyhow, I have a long list of places I enjoyed far more than Lake Louise. It’s a beautiful lake, no question, but it wasn’t what I would consider the most beautiful place I saw in Banff.

Here’s where I need your help…

I’m going back to the area next year, so give me ALL your tips and tricks for having a more meaningful experience at Lake Louise.

Did I miss the mark in my assessment? Is there something I should have done differently? Or is my assessment pretty accurate and we just don’t talk about it? 😂

The before and after!😂🫎

Right outside our campground, we were treated to quite a show by this big ol’ bull elk. You can hear the van idling in the video because I was taking cover behind the front of the van, with the driver’s side door open and ready to bolt for cover if necessary. 😂

He put on an impressive show, but I can’t even begin to express to you the size of this guy. Massive!

After seeing him up close, I was inspired to try something a little different for dinner that night and decided to give elk meatloaf a try.

Now you know why I called this the before and after.😂

And let me tell you, it was the most delicious meal I had in Canada! So yummy! The elk meatloaf was paired with smoky broccolini and yam purée, and the combination was absolutely incredible.

If you’re in the Jasper area in Alberta, Canada, swing by Jasper Brewing Company for an excellent meal and equally wonderful service.

The elk continued to show up in and immediately around Wapiti Campground in Jasper National Park. 🫎🇨🇦

Here’s a big ol’ bull elk we caught right outside the campground as we came off the Icefields Parkway. He put on quite a show!

Sorry for the van idling you can hear in the background, but I was taking cover behind the van with the driver’s side door open, ready to bolt if I needed to. 😂

Definitely one of those wildlife encounters you don’t forget! 🫎🏔️

The crown jewel of Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. 💙🏔️

When visiting Jasper National Park, getting out on the water at Maligne Lake should be at the top of your list. If seeing Spirit Island is something you can’t miss, and really you shouldn’t, then a boat cruise may be the best way to experience it.

If you’re a strong kayaker, you could venture out for an all-day adventure. Paddling to Spirit Island and back is roughly 17 miles round trip, so be prepared for a full day on the water!

Whichever way you choose to experience Maligne Lake, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

When you’re finished, stop by the Waffle Hut for a sweet or savory treat. The portions are generous enough to split between two people! 🧇
