The annual International Walk to School Day has been celebrated in Madison since 2006. Students, Parents and the Mayor join millions of children in 50 states and across the world, making the commitment to lead healthier lifestyles by walking or bicycling to school. Walk to School Day began as a simple idea – children and parents, school and local officials walking to school together on a designated day. The event focuses on health, safety, physical activity, a sense of community and concern for the environment.
