At 17 weeks in utero, we were told that Emmanuel had a cyst that had caused irreparable damage to his brain. Doctors advised us to terminate the pregnancy due to the 9 out of 10 possibility that he would be a vegetable. At 20 weeks in utero, we were told that he had a high probability for cognitive and physical impairments, specially autism.
Out of the many prayers we did and the many discussions we had, we always touched upon what would be of him once we are no longer here. We always thought of Eden and the burden we were laying on her then tiny shoulders. Yet, God had other plans. As Emmanuel is the blessed and rare 1 out of 10. 🙏🏻
Our journey, like that of all special needs parents, has been filled with tears of pain and sobs of happiness. Many blessings have come our way. One of them is the way Eden adores her Memito. And her Memito adores his Tata. In a way, she’s been forced to grow up a bit too quick. But on the other, she is growing into a loving and sympathetic human being that will defend her brother through thick and thin. She sees beyond his disabilities and marvels at his amazing abilities.
Today, on her birthday and on Easter Sunday, we celebrate her and her heart of gold. Forever thankful for God’s vision of sending her brother a guardian Angel in the form of his sister. Happy 1️⃣1️⃣ birthday Tata. Memito loves you to the moon and back.
