Moving in Memphis this fall? Save this post. These 8 tips will make your move cheaper, faster, and a lot less stressful.
๏ธโฃ Book 2โ3 weeks out. That gives you the best pick of dates without paying for last-minute scheduling.
๏ธโฃ Pick a weekday, mid-month if you can. Weekends and the first/last few days of the month fill up fastest because that's when most leases turn over.
๏ธโฃ Plan around the holidays. The week of Thanksgiving gets busy, and people leave town. If you're moving in November, lock in your date early.
๏ธโฃ Start early in the day. Daylight saving time ends November 1, and it gets dark before 5:30. A morning start means unloading in daylight.
๏ธโฃ Pack a rain kit. Memphis fall weather can turn quickly. Keep old towels, plastic bins, and floor runners by the door to protect your floors and belongings.
๏ธโฃ Clear the path. Rake wet leaves off the driveway and walkways the day before. They're slippery when you're carrying a dresser.
๏ธโฃ Set up utilities ahead of time. Call MLGW at least a week before so the lights and heat are on when you arrive. Update your address with USPS while you're at it.
๏ธโฃ Pack a "first night" box. Put sheets, toiletries, chargers, medications, snacks, and a few tools in one box and keep it with you, not on the truck.
