⚡ 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 & 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐱

Electric Shock Drowning (ESD) is a serious and potentially deadly hazard. It is most commonly associated with electrical systems connected to shore power, docks, and marinas. Electrical current in the water can cause muscle paralysis, making it difficult or impossible to swim to safety.

𝐓𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐒𝐃:

• Have your boat’s electrical system inspected regularly.
• Regularly check shore-power cords and connections for damage.
• Make sure your boat has properly installed and functioning GFCI/ELCI protection, bonding, and grounding.
• Never swim near a boat, dock, or marina while shore power is connected.

𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬?

Many boat owners don’t realize their boat needs sacrificial anodes. These small metal components are designed to corrode instead of your boat’s underwater metal, helping protect expensive components—including pontoons, drives, trim tabs, and other underwater hardware—from corrosion damage. Anodes wear away over time and should be checked regularly and replaced when needed.

The photos below show how corrosion can affect a pontoon and why regular inspections are important. The first photo shows the pontoon before pressure washing. The hole was not visible until after the boat was pressure washed, as shown in the second photo.

If this boat had not been pulled out of the water and pressure washed, the hidden corrosion would have gone unnoticed and eventually led to a much more serious—and costly—problem.

Canyon Lake may be closed starting September 8, but Scanlan RV Marine isn’t going anywhere! We’ll remain open throughout the drawdown. Let us know how we can help prepare your boat for when the lake reopens. Don’t wait until the last minute!

The water level at Canyon Lake will be lowered for approximately 16 weeks starting mid-September of 2026 for critical dam safety inspections and maintenance.

🚤 Before & After: Boat Hull Pressure Washing

These before-and-after photos show what a difference pressure washing makes. It removes algae and buildup, exposing the hull and underwater components so hidden damage, corrosion, worn anodes, and failing bottom paint can be identified.

Scanlan RV Marine is looking for an experienced mechanic to join our team at Canyon Lake in Apache Junction. While Canyon Lake is temporarily closed for its scheduled drawdown, our workload remains steady. When the lake reopens, you'll enjoy working at a busy marina and being part of an active boating community.

Marine experience is preferred, but we also welcome applicants with automotive, diesel, RV, powersports, or heavy equipment repair experience who are eager to learn the marine industry.

If your boat will be stored at Canyon Lake Marina during the drawdown, a little preparation now can help make sure it's ready to get back on the water when the lake reopens.

We've put together a Storage Protection Package that includes storage preparation, an out-of-water inspection, written recommendations with prioritized repair estimates, and periodic inspections while your boat is in storage. Since many areas of your boat can only be inspected out of the water, the drawdown is a great opportunity to get a better picture of your boat's condition.

We are seeking an experienced marine technician with strong troubleshooting skills, a solid mechanical background, and a commitment to quality workmanship. The ideal person is self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently. Work may include diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining marine engines and onboard systems, as well as documenting completed work and recommendations.

We offer flexible scheduling and competitive pay based on experience.
