Good morning SALT Fam! We got some exciting news coming at you today!

In a few hours I should be picking up a brand new Okuma Solterra SLX-50WII with a couple extra goodies.

That reel is getting rigged in my brand new Penn Mariner 3. This rod is a beast, rated for 80-200lb braid. 50-130lb mono extra heavy action!

This sucker of a combo is gonna reel in whatever fish I can get on the end of it!

Its main use will be trolling and bottom fishing.

Sunday, guys, I’m going fishing on the beach for the first time!
I’ve fished on piers, banks, burrows, bridges, and boats. Now we’re gonna get a taste of the BEACH!

Fishin Control has kindly invited me to join him for some surf fishing! We’re gonna do a collab together where I step into his world, and he’ll step into mine. If you havnt checked out Fishin Control on YouTube, your missing out! Brian shoots some quality surf fishing videos that you need to check out! He provides informative surf fishing tips and tricks and I’ve also learned a thing or 2 watching his content, go check him out!

Lower foot inspection

This was the first time I had removed the foot to inspect and replace the water pump impeller.

To my surprise it was not in bad shape at all. There is a brass/rubber guide bushing that I had debated on replacing but deemed not necessary right now.

Once she was all cleaned up, new hardware installed, the foot and everything went back together like a glove! And the the OJ Simpson type shi 💪🏻😅😎

I went into Walmart to get line so I can teach myself the FG Knot and a couple other knots and we all know how Walmart is. You go in for one thing and come out with more than what you anticipated.

Well when I looked up from looking at line, this rod “bought” my eye. The first thing I saw was the gimbal butt. Hmm, now you got my attention! The $70 ($120 on Amazon) had it in my hands and the heavy action mixed with line weight sold me!

Needless to say I bought my first trolling rod. I have a temporary reel on it for now!

Successfully did 2 FG Knots after 10 mins of rewatching the same YouTube video 😅 needless to say it’s a lot easier once you know what’s going on!

Part 2 is here with the new heads getting installed. It was a good thing I did all this!

I previously checked compression which tested an average of 130 psi per cylinder.

I was able to get a good sense of how well…. Or poorly this motor was flushed after use.

While no water jacket holes were covered up, I wouldn’t have take. Much to block passages for effective and efficient cooling.

I ran a tap into each bolt hole to remove any corrosion inside the holes.

I cleaned up the mating surfaces with a scotch bright type wheel

I ensured cleanliness with acetone

I used Permatex High Tack Gasket Sealant for the gasket/ mating surface.

I used Permatex copper anti-seize compound for all the new replacement bolts.

After ensuring proper torque specs and sequence for each bolt, the repair was a solid success! Drop a comment below and let me know what you think!!!
