Lighting up Chicago nights. 🎇

This is where it all starts—carefully staged racks secured on deck, barges positioned with precision, and every detail checked before showtime. While the fireworks steal the spotlight, our crew is focused on making sure everything is exactly where it needs to be on the water.

Proud to support the setup that helps bring these iconic Chicago nights to life—safely, efficiently, and right on target.

Today, we pause.

Memorial Day belongs to the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country. Soldiers. Sailors. Airmen. Marines. And the merchant mariners who served alongside them, often in waters as dangerous as any battlefield.

Maritime history and military history have always been intertwined. From the convoys of two world wars to every conflict since, mariners have helped carry this country through.

To the families who lost someone in service — we remember them with you.

And to the veterans who walk our docks, ride in our wheelhouses, and work in our terminals every day — thank you for your service, then and now. 🙏 🇺🇸

207 years ago today, a ship called the SS Savannah did something everyone said was impossible. She crossed the Atlantic under steam. 🌊

Crews called her the "Steam Coffin." 💀 Sailors refused to sign on. Investors laughed. She left port with zero passengers and zero cargo aboard. Mid-voyage, another ship spotted her smokestack and chased her for hours, convinced she was on fire. She still made it. 29 days. First in history. ⚓

That one voyage rewrote how the world moves cargo. No more waiting on the wind. No more letting the weather call the shots.

In 1933, Congress made May 22 National Maritime Day in her honor.

Fast forward to 2026: that same spirit runs through every inch of America's inland river system. 700 million tons of cargo moving every year through the lakes, rivers, locks, and waterways that built this country. 🚢

At Middle River Marine, we're proud to carry that legacy forward. Different tech. Different ships. Same DNA. ⚓

To every mariner past, present, and future keeping the cargo moving — today's for you.

Ever wonder what's actually inside the barges you see on the river?

Spoiler: it's almost everything you used today. ⬇️

⛽ The gasoline in your car 🌽 The corn in your cereal ⚫ The coal that powered your lights 🪨 The gravel under your driveway 🧪 The chemicals in your cleaning supplies 🏗️ The steel in your office building 🧂 The salt on your winter roads

America's inland waterways move 465 million tons of this stuff every year. Quietly. Efficiently. While most people scroll past without noticing.
Next time you see a barge, look a little closer. You probably have more in common with it than you think. 🚢⚓

This is what we do. ⚓🚢

Sound on. Volume up. 🔊

Marine dispatch is a different breed. ⚓

30 names for the same dock? Easy.
The one that's been closed since the 90's? Yep.
The captain's preferred coffee order? Obviously.

Tag a dispatcher who just gets it. 👇

🎬 Inside MRM: Episode 4

Step aboard the MV Gwyneth Anne with Captain Mike Wolf.

In this episode, Mike shares what life looks like from the wheelhouse — the day-to-day of moving cargo across the inland waterways, and what it takes to keep a vessel like the Gwyneth Anne running at its best.

Our crews are the backbone of every tow, every delivery, and every client we serve. Inside MRM is our chance to put a spotlight on the people who make it all happen.
