This Continental A-75-8 engine put a Taylorcraft down in the early 1980’s and dad salvaged it from the wrecked airplane. There was no prop strike but had quit, causing the forced landing. Now, Removed from storage after 45 years.

We have two aspiring young men helping us out to do the disassembly today and they’re doing this for the first time. Here’s some of our photos.

We determined the cause of the engine shut down. Several Tappet sockets were found out of place and jammed into various positions. Turns out these tappets were the non-snap ring style. Discussing with Cary VanDeventer at aircraft specialties, he says a stuck valve may have been the cause of this.

We had to do this the hard way (without an engine stand) because both of our stands are occupied. We had a great time today at work.
