I-65 PATCHING AHEAD: The Alabama Department of Transportation is announcing asphalt patching work will kick off on I-65 on August 30 in Shelby County.

*WHERE: I-65 in both directions between MP 240.4 in Alabaster up to the Jefferson County Line
*WHEN: Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. until September 24
*IMPACT: Traffic could be reduced down to one lane

I-65S BACK OPEN: Alabama Department of Transportation has reopened I-65S at Exit 234 in Calera.

All southbound lanes were shut down for seven hours Tuesday following a bridge strike at the CR-87 bridge.

The southbound lane of the CR-87 bridge itself will remain closed for a few weeks until the damaged section can be repaired.

I-65 BRIDGE STRIKE UPDATE:

I-65 southbound and the CR-87 bridge remain closed at Exit 234.

All southbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 238 in Alabaster onto US-31.

Concrete debris on the roadway has been removed and crews are cutting away the damaged rebar underneath the bridge.

ALDOT’s Emergency Bridge Inspection Team will now inspect the bridge damage and determine the safe timeline to reopen I-65S and the CR-87 bridge.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is aware that a piece of construction equipment struck the underside of CR-87 bridge over I-65 at Exit 234 in Shelby County shortly before 12pm today.

The southbound lanes of the interstate are currently shut down to allow crews to remove the concrete debris from the roadway. The CR-87 bridge is also currently closed to traffic.

ALDOT has crews on the scene to evaluate the bridge's structural integrity. I-65 will reopen as soon as safely possible.

CLEBURNE COUNTY UDPATE: Work continues to upgrade SR-46 through Ranburne to the Georgia state line.

Alabama Department of Transportation has completed about a third of the resurfacing and the 'Road Diet' project.

PUBLIC INPUT REQUESTED: Alabama Department of Transportation is planning to replace two I-59 bridges in St Clair County in 2027.

Work to upgrade the spans over Big Canoe Creek and Muckleroy Creek would leave one lane open in each direction during construction for up to two years.

DDI BRIDGE APPROVAL: The new Diverging Diamond Interchange bridge at McAshan Drive on I-20/59 in McCalla recently passed inspection.

The construction milestone was reached as completion of the $22M traffic upgrade nears completion this fall.
