Backwoods Boujee, Naples, FL (2026)

Last night reminded me why we love this lifestyle.

As we get ready to pull out of Twin Oaks RV Park in Elko, Georgia—about 2½ hours north of Valdosta and the Florida state line—I can honestly say that anytime we’re traveling through this area and need an overnight stop, this is where we’ll be staying.

I’m actually a little sad we had less than 15 hours here.

Twin Oaks is a wonderful family-owned campground, and you can tell the owners have poured their heart and soul into every inch of it.

The grounds are beautifully manicured, and the amenities are thoughtfully designed. There’s a welcoming clubhouse, a separate game room that’s perfect for kids with a pool table and shelves full of old-school board games, a small fitness room, a coffee bar, a beautiful pool, a gazebo, a playground, and some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet.

It’s the perfect blend of long-term summer campers, work campers, and travelers just passing through like us. That mix creates something special.

The moment we got settled, a swarm of kids came running over, introduced themselves, and whisked Autumn away into their group. As parents, there’s nothing sweeter than watching your child instantly feel included.

It actually took me back to my own childhood summers at Deer Meadow Campground in Cook Forest. Those carefree days of riding bikes, making new friends within minutes, and playing until your parents finally made you come in are memories I’ll always treasure. Watching Autumn experience a little bit of that same magic made my heart happy.

She stayed outside playing until 10:00 p.m., which I honestly don’t think she’s ever done. Then, even after we got her inside, it was midnight before she finally fell asleep because she was so excited about the night she’d just had.

This morning she was somehow back up at 7:00 a.m., fully dressed and waiting for the inevitable knock on the camper door so she could squeeze in every last minute with her new friends before we had to leave.

Now it’s time to hitch up and head to our final destination—Black Prong Resort.

We’re excited for what’s ahead, but we’re also leaving Twin Oaks wishing we’d planned to stay longer. Sometimes the best campgrounds are the ones you don’t want to leave, and this is definitely one of them.

📍 Campground Review: Red Coach Resort – Toney, Alabama

Our stop at Red Coach Resort was exactly what we needed during our journey north. This quaint little campground isn’t designed to be a destination resort with endless activities, and that’s perfectly okay. It served us well as a peaceful two-night stay while we were in the Huntsville area for our daughter’s martial arts competition.

One of our favorite discoveries was the adjacent creek just down the camp road. The campground also offers a beautiful 1.5-mile nature trail, making it easy to stretch your legs and enjoy the beauty of northern Alabama.

For me, the highlight each morning was grabbing my coffee and sitting under the gazebo overlooking the koi pond, watching the koi gather for breakfast. It was such a peaceful way to start the day.

The owners are clearly investing in the property. The new bathhouses and laundry facilities are bright, clean, and thoughtfully done, and it’s easy to see they’re continuing to make improvements.

During our stay, we noticed a mix of fellow RV travelers passing through along with several long-term guests, including linemen, construction workers, and traveling nurses. It has a friendly, quiet atmosphere.

One thing to note, especially if you’re working remotely while traveling: the campground’s Wi-Fi was very spotty during our stay. If dependable internet is important to you, I’d recommend traveling with your own mobile internet solution. We never leave home without our mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and it’s become one of those RV essentials we wouldn’t want to travel without.

If you’re looking for organized activities, a pool, or a resort experience, this probably isn’t the campground for you. But if you’re passing through the Huntsville area and want a clean, peaceful place to relax beneath beautiful Alabama oaks, Red Coach Resort is a solid choice.

⭐ Our Backwoods Boujee Rating: 3 out of 5 campfires. 🔥🔥🔥Speaking of which, yes, they do have regular sized fire rings. The mini campfire in the last photo was used because it was just too darn hot to make s’mores over a traditional campfire. My family laughed when I got this small travel gem. They weren’t laughing last night when it served them well! 😂

It delivered exactly what we needed—a quiet, comfortable place to recharge—but compared to some of our other stops on this journey, it offered fewer amenities and activities.

Now it’s time to hitch up and head to our next stop…

Nashville Shores! I’m looking forward to floating the lazy river while our daughter has her eye on the water park. A jet ski also has my name on it (as do my cowboy boots for our nights in Music City). We can’t wait to share that adventure with you.

Some lessons don’t come from a boardroom. They come from the beach.

Today is Day 3 of our nearly two-week adventure aboard Backwoods Boujee OTR, and I made a realization…

I honestly don’t know how to relax.

There’s probably a reason meditation has never worked very well for me. 😄

Years of serving incredible nonprofit organizations, leading campaigns, solving problems, building strategies, and always thinking three steps ahead have wired my brain to stay “on.” That mindset has served me well professionally. It’s helped me build a career I love and support missions that truly matter.

It’s just…not so great for the central nervous system.

We’re spending a couple of nights at Camping on the Gulf in Destin, and if you’ve never been here, it’s unlike a typical campground. Many of the sites are literally steps from the beach. You trade spacious campsites for something much more valuable—the sound of waves and front-row seats to one of the most beautiful stretches of shoreline in the country.

And yes…they pack those sites in tight!

I’m incredibly grateful for a husband who can maneuver 64 feet of truck and fifth wheel into places that seem physically impossible. Watching him back Backwoods Boujee OTR into our site was a reminder that everyone brings different strengths to the journey.

This morning I carried my phone down to the shoreline, sat quietly beside the emerald waters of the Gulf, and simply…tried.

Not to answer emails.
Not to solve problems.
Not to plan the next thing. Even the next vacation or the travel plan from here to Huntsville tomorrow.

Just to be present.

It wasn’t easy.

But maybe that’s the lesson.

Maybe learning to rest is a skill, just like learning to lead. Maybe after years of training our minds to always be productive, we have to intentionally retrain them to simply enjoy the moment we’re standing in.

I’m not there yet.

But this morning felt like a pretty good place to start.

Night one is in the books. 🐊

Suwannee River Bend RV Resort did not disappoint. Family owned, incredible staff, and we backed right into a cove where the river bends. Literal front row seat to the Suwannee.

The highlight? A massive old alligator who clearly owns that stretch of river and knows it.

We played Taco Cat (if you haven't, find it immediately, it's completely ridiculous and we loved every second. We rediscovered all our RV travel rituals that apparently got a little rusty since our last trip, and for the first time in longer than I can remember, my internal alarm clock just... didn't go off. I actually overslept. On vacation. Revolutionary.

There's something about unplugging from the routine, sitting still in a beautiful place, and having nowhere to be that does what nothing else quite can. Yes, we travel in a fifth wheel with a king bed and a full kitchen. Glamping and proud of it. But the reconnecting? The just-us time that only the open road seems to unlock? That part is one hundred percent real. 🏕️

Now we're watching the weather and dodging what we need to dodge on our way to Destin, where we've got two nights camping right on the beach.

The road is calling. We are answering. 🚐

🚐 Backwoods Boujee OTR is officially on the road!

People call it glamping.

I suppose the glam part comes from the three A/C units, mobile Wi-Fi, comfy beds, and the fact that I’ve figured out creative DIY versions of a washer, dryer, and even a dishwasher. 😂 And, of course, the decor…because if you know me, you know I refuse to leave the glam at home.

But if you had seen Doug and me over the last two days…there wasn’t much "glam" about it.

✔️ I was installing new tire pressure sensors on the rig.
✔️ Doug was scrubbing the roof.
✔️ I tackled the rest of this massive beast from top to bottom.
✔️ Full inspections. Underbelly included.
✔️ Stocking, organizing, checking, double-checking…

This isn’t just hooking up and driving away. When you’re pulling 64 feet of truck and home through four states, preparation isn’t optional.

Today, my arms are so sore I can barely brush my teeth. 🤣

That’s the part people don’t always see.

RVing really is a lifestyle—not just a vacation—and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.

Our fifth wheel is affectionately named Backwoods Boujee OTR (the original Backwoods Boujee is our little slice of Florida heaven). The name fits perfectly because I bring the boujee…just enough to balance out all the backwoods that naturally comes with camping. 😄

Tonight we’re making a quick overnight stop in Suwannee. I’m hoping to get us set up quickly so Doug and Autumn can head straight for the water with their fishing poles while I wrap up my last official workday for a little while.

Then…it’s finally time to unplug, explore, make memories, and see where the road takes us.

Adventure awaits. ❤️

Our “other baby”, Backwoods Boujee OTR is ready to hit the road again. Come along with us as we travel through Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia on our path to Autumn’s last national martial arts competition before achieving high rank. I’m looking forward to downtime, cookouts, camping right on the beach and having our toes in the sand in Destin, line dancing in Nashville, lazy river and jet skiing time, horseback riding (if it stays under 95 degrees😂), and a visit to Devil’s Den for a little prehistoric cave exploration. And of course, watching our rockstar compete with her team and colleagues from around the country in Huntsville. First stop: Suwannee River on Monday!
